This morning.

Oireachtas Health Committee.

Via RTÉ News:

The Minister for Health, Stephen Donnelly, has said there is no mechanism for any religious involvement, now or in the future, in either the St Vincent’s Healthcare Group or the New National Maternity Hospital.

….Committee members this morning will also have a statement from HSE board members Professor Deirdre Madden and Dr Sarah McLoughlin, who argue the hospital should be built on State-owned land, to ensure the separation of Church and State, and why they retain concerns about clinical independence.

Donnelly faces renewed questioning over National Maternity Hospital (RTE)

How long was left on Richards leasehold?
Once it drops below 60 years or so it can become problematic if you want to sell as banks wont want to lend on it.
I’ll need to buy mine out in the next couple of years.

…any lease is simply a wasting asset,it gets less valuable as time goes on.
There is a pretty large field of research on how to value them,John Finnegan (Finnegan Menton) liked them so much he bought the Pembroke Estate, which consisted at the time of long term land leases on prime Dublin properties,he was Charlies bagman and appeared at numerous tribunals.
The lease will have as all do a ‘use’ provision, which is when the scalpel hits the skin….in some situations, tax, complicated ownership structure, they are still used, but who wants create a new landed gentry….with the power to dictate via a use clause your operations.

Then if then there is no reference for religious mechanism in the lease them why is the lease to hold the asset with the religious institution involved in the shelf company that owns the lease ?

Dose Humpty Dumpty think we are a nation of think paddies ?
This project must be cancelled now
        We can live without it
A good lick of paint in the existing hospitals and you can Google for the excellence
All the consultants are the opulent high tech environment and new machines that go ping and the best thing save a few billion

Could it be that the consultants – or whoever it is that owns – the current NMH site want to redevelop it or sell it for redevelopment, while we – essentially – gift them a brand new state of the art hospital?

if you hold a leasehold you can buy the freehold for a couple of hundred quid right up to year the lease expires. the above is a complete non-story.

back in the day when retail was viable and rents were rising, older below market leases with a spread or arbitrage to open market had some value, nowdays….key money is just a distant fond memory on Grafton St.
just ask Bewleys how much fun leasing is.

He got into politics to help?
I’d say he has certainly helped himself, big time.

Interesting moves though: management – independent TD – Social Democratic TD – FF TD – FF government minister

Darragh O’Brien said the same thing in the Dail, a lease does not equate to ownership.
But he’s renowned for his duplicity

These boys may not be members of Mensa, but make no mistake about it, they are not stupid.
        They are clever and snaky.

Just abandon the whole thing and if they want one that much build it on taxpayers owned land that is administered by the state (elected by the people to manage our affairs and what is referred to as state assets )
The state is not the people of ireland

    2. Kin

But it’s not that simple it’s the asset that is built on the land leased like a business is owned by the directors that operate it
And the assets they bought not leased

    shlippery boys.

What will be pushed front and centre over the next week to divert attention away from this shambles?

  4. Dr.Fart

he’ll just say more made-up-on-the-spot nonsense, wriggle about, say all will be fine. then head off and not worry about it again, as he won’t be in government by the time the nuns are blocking abortions in the new hospital.

There’s no fear of the building winning any architectural prizes if that’s the artists impression of it – strictly late period Nicky Ceausescu neo-brutalism
