Gardaí have arrested 10 men in connection with an ongoing investigation into alleged match fixing in the League of Ireland.

Investigators said the men have been arrested on suspicion of the offence of Conspiracy to Defraud contrary to Common Law and are currently detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984 at various stations in the Southern Region and Dublin Metropolitan Region.

Gardaí said the operation stems from an investigation carried out by detectives attached to the Anti-Bribery & Corruption Unit in 2019, following reports of suspected match-fixing received from the Football Association of Ireland (FAI) and Union of European Football Associations (UEFA).

I’d start with all Ireland final replays.

        Look at clues like
No team deserved to lose. A draw was the fairest result.

        Especially for the GAA

What does it stand for again

Of course it’s fixed. How many times have I said that all soccer is fixed. Normally I get shouted down by people who don’t want to believe it, but it’s true. It’s entertainment, just like wrestling. Ask yourselves this: do you think the chariot racing in Ancient Rome was or wasn’t fixed?

There’s no way all soccer is fixed. Some lower leagues are prone to it but there’s just too much involved financially at the higher end to make it worthwhile. Also, a he’ll of a lot of people have to be on board to fix a football match. Much easier to target a 1v1 sport like snooker, tennis, darts, boxing etc.

Hank, it’s precisely because there is so much money at risk that it is fixed.
