This afternoon.

Criminal Courts of Justice, Dublin.

Via RTE News:

Former Irish soldier Lisa Smith has been found guilty of being a member of the unlawful terrorist group, the so-called Islamic State.

Smith, an Islamic convert, travelled to Syria after terrorist leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi called on Muslims to travel to the Islamic State.

The 40-year-old pleaded not guilty to being a member of the group between 28 October 2015 and 1 December 2019.

Smith was a member of the Irish Defence forces from 2001 to 2011.

She was granted bail in advance of a sentencing hearing on 11 July.

Thanks to wikileaks – we know that ISIS were funded by CIA/Mossad. Surely a bigger crime than being a member no?

As part of her detail working with the defense forces, she was assigned to accompany ministers. I wonder if she overheard anything that contributed to her schism? Here’s hoping a journalist digs in a bit.

      1. Chris

@ Tom J – any journalist with integrity would do, not many of them in MSM to be fair.

@Mad – funding & arming terrorists is OK but traveling to a country occupied by said terrorists – not OK. Grand so.

        1. Ian - oG

So because someone else committed a bigger crime, what?

          Drop the charges?

What is the point you are trying to make here?

          1. Chris

Rank hypocrisy. The creation of ISIS caused untold suffering to achieve intelligence services ends.

What actual crime has she committed? Falling for western funded propaganda and joining a fictional ‘state’?

          1. Daisy Chainsaw

Surely some citizen journalist with a cameraphone and a tiktok channel would do the job!!

          2. Me So Harney

Like Bruce Y Lee or council on foreign relations toady Dave Van Zandt?

Were they mass murdering truckkkers kkkops again?

    1. Kin

Chris deport her to Syria to answer for crimes she could of committed in a war zone
      As for Mossad
Rumour is they sunk the titanic
She got out but no one thinks of the sure hell those poor Syrians lived through under the ISIS state
Also maybe she should be tried for treason as she took an oath while a member of our defence forces to serve this country to defend it from enemies within the state and from outside
I do not think there is a timeline over that one

      1. Chris

If she committed crimes in Syria, she would have been tried there no? To imagine they don’t have intel on on all westerners that arrived there is a stretch.

Mossad weren’t around for the sinking of the titanic but your flippancy belies an ignorance of their purpose. All intelligence agencies are the creation of finance, to further their interests. Nothing more, though plebs do have to pick up the tab for their ‘services’.

Tried for treason? Perhaps, but she’d be far down the line from the people doing actual damage to the nation. On my more optimistic days I can squint & almost see them decorating lamposts, here’s hoping.

        1. Tom J

She’s the kind of woman that would laugh in your face and then cut your throat and watch you bleed to death.

          1. Chris

Do you know her? That’s quite a harsh appraisal Tom. It would be extremely unlikely for a woman to adopt a different cultural/religious schema out of blood-lust. It’s far more likely to be as a result of trauma.

          2. Tom J

            @ Chris,
The people who flew the planes into the world trade center, the people who exploded the bombs on the London underground, the guy who exploded the bomb at the Ariana Grande concert in Manchester were all suffering from trauma. Stop the nonsense Chris. It doesn’t matter if it’s a woman or a man, a terrorist is a terrorist.

          3. Kin

            Spot on Tom
She ah hem was evacuated to a camp then pleaded innocent
Sure she just happened to wear a burka boiler to protect her very pale completion
Her divorce apparently was less explosive than Jonnie depp vs amber heard

          4. Chris

9/11 was orchestrated by intelligence services. I’m not sure about the London underground bombing but the concert one did appear to be an actual ideological terror event.

Men & women are not just physiologically different, there are many psychological markers that can be easily differentiated between. The recurrent pattern for men that get groomed into terrorism is usually low to moderate IQ, a life of petty crime & drug use that results in incarceration & a criminal record. They ruin their life through stupid choices & the groomers offer a chance of ‘redemption’.

For women it’s either as a result of severe trauma or a very dominant farther/guardian that molds them. Of course if anyone acts they’re accountable, but apart from foolishly flying to Syria, I’ve seen no accounts of Lisa Smith being an actual terrorist.

@ Bodger – LOL but I disagree, I don’t think any trauma was involved, some are just born that way.

          5. Chris

No Tom, though I might have imbibed more chemicals than anyone on this board (except johnny), my modicum of intelligence kept me away from trouble. I’ve never received a caution/arrest/ conviction etc.

          6. Tom J

Yes, I think the chemicals are starting to have an effect on you, so proceed with caution, Chris.

          7. Chris

I’m in my forties. Most chemical dalliances are at this point are too boring to even entertain.

        2. Kin

Actually chris apparently many of them including her were residing in Kurdish camps after fleeing along with remnants of ISIS
If the Syrian army would of captured her I suppose she would of been humped more times than a camel and put to death
They repatriated all the westerners back where they came from
As for Mossad just like the KGB MI5 CIA
          they are nasty and ruthless
I suppose israel has been such to ensure its survival
4 wars and constant threats from suicide bombing to knifing shootings etc
I thought one day with a less right wing Netanyahu in charge we might see a more pro Palestinian Israel but hamas are still at it
As a Jew I am a Zionist as in I believe in Israel and without Israel no Jew is safe in this world

    2. Rob_G

As part of her detail working with the defense forces, she was assigned to accompany ministers. I wonder if she overheard anything that contributed to her schism?”

Not only have they made a hames of the housing crisis, now FFFG are radicalising people and causing them to join Islamic State – is there no end to their perfidy????

  2. Gabby

A long and interesting case. Will there be a splurge of inside stories after the sentencing? Watch this and many other spaces.

    1. Bodger

If any of this was real, wouldn’t the case be heard at the Special Criminal Court?

    2. Kin

      Gabby I bet three months
I reckon this case was dragged on so golf gate set the tone for the nations appetite
This woman could of been party for several deaths of dirt poor Syrians
But who cares as Assad is as popular as Putin
So no justice for those poor Syrians

  3. SamSurfer

Poor woman obviously had mental health issues and was groomed into something she clearly regrets, the fact that she was charged and prosecuted for taking a wrong turn is disgusting.

    1. Praetorian

No…she didn’t have mental health issues nor was she goomed.
She was an attention seeking idiot throughout her military career…this ISIS bullpoo was just the next step.

        1. Termagant

She’s a grown woman, you could better show her due respect by letting her bear responsibility for her own actions instead of giving all the agency to some other nebulous force.

    2. Mad

      No it isn’t
      She’s a terrorist and a criminal
Shut the fupp up with your mental health diagnosis you don’t know Jack about her

      1. Chris

“She’s a terrorist and a criminal” – “you don’t know Jack about her” Touche Mad, but don’t let me stop you throwing peanuts from the gallery.

        1. Mad

What the fupp are you on about Chris? Every thing you post here is an exhibition of someone displaying the most tenuous grip on reality

          1. Chris

I don’t have any kind of grip on the reality you inhabit Mad, my default now is a form of severe cynicism for anything that crosses my path. But in my day to day reactions to situations thru work etc I’ve never been healthier.

Being busy means I only spend a few hours a week online, I think that has been the biggest boon to my recent situation. “Abandon Hope All Ye Who Enter Here” that should be the motto for the InterNET. The world wide WEB. It’s a given that that it was the creation of military tech, but who is the spider weaving the web?

One thing that has heartened me is that peeps in their early 20’s have cottoned on & they’re quite angry about the unfolding situation. You can fool people some of the time etc. This time last year I would have had a more fatalistic position but now I’m far more optimistic.

          2. Mad

You’re a nice person, genuinely Chris – one could not reach any other conclusion after watching how polite and articulate you are “on the Telly” – cut the bs out though – you are a stooge for every single conspiracy going – how does someone get into that sort of frame of mind – I can’t really wrap my head around it unless there are a lot of mind altering substances?

    3. Kin

      Sam
No one knows except those who had to live under ISIS when she was a member
Maybe she commanded the beheading of Syrians
No one knows except those who experienced the ISIS touch where she was living
      One thing for sure
She will not spill the beans
Send her to Syria and swap her for a camel for all I care
Or maybe the UN needs to send inspectors to Syria to visit where she was living and find out was she involved in the carnage

  4. wearnicehats

Now that she’s been acknowledged as a member of a terrorist organisation I’d imagine a career in irish politics is her logical next step

    1. SOQ

There is a slight difference between being a terrorist for the people, and being a terrorist against the people?

      1. wearnicehats

try telling that to the families of the 1841 civilians killed by both sides between 1966 and 2006 – that figure includes 257 children btw

What has you on here anyway – aren’t 3rd division Moldovan hockey players feeling short of breath anymore?

  5. K. Cavan

Being with ISIS in Syria makes her a CIA asset, within a group that were created when the US claimed to be hunting for non-existent WMDs but killed a million people instead.
Not merely a bigger crime but one for which nobody will be prosecuted. They could “deport” her, which involves the court telling her to go away, after which she can just stay, maybe plan some terrorism. We’ve had our first Islamic beheadings, about time Ireland stepped up to the Big League with some Islamic Terrorism, so our politicians can hold their heads high in Brussels.
This is just Clownworld, going about its business.

    1. Tom J

So you are in favour of Islamic terrorism in Ireland. Now everyone knows the sort of person you really are. K. Cavan.

          1. Chris

“The real hopeless victims of mental illness are to be found among those who appear to be most normal. “Many of them are normal because they are so well adjusted to our mode of existence, because their human voice has been silenced so early in their lives, that they do not even struggle or suffer or develop symptoms as the neurotic does.” They are normal not in what may be called the absolute sense of the word; they are normal only in relation to a profoundly abnormal society. Their perfect adjustment to that abnormal society is a measure of their mental sickness. These millions of abnormally normal people, living without fuss in a society to which, if they were fully human beings, they ought not to be adjusted.” Aldous Huxley

Just what kind of world to you imagine you inhabit?

          2. Mad

The one where I don’t have to go out and seek attention by being “shocking” on the internet Chris – that said – I do sort of agree with what Huxley said there!
