Please do not call me a longer
      A glimpse into the future
On WION today a report regarding trials by scientists and a school to educate children regarding the benefit of an insect diet
Kids aged around 7 fed diets of meal worms and locusts
Spiders are also a good nutrient and cockroaches could also be in dishes like lasagne burgers and even colourful salads
      The conditioning starts young
All I know as a chef
You are what you eat and the great plan is to eradicate meat so we have oodles of emissions in our allotment for data centres
      God love the future generations
The great reset is well under way
Just wait until the WHO vaccine mandate is imposed
It’s coming and no one is going to stop it

I’ve eaten locusts. Very nice as it happens, some honey and almond flakes with black pepper, consistency was a bit like a prawn and the taste was similar but not as fishy if that makes sense.

On the other hand I absolutely oppose data centres, they provide zero value and eat away at our resources and I also love me nice juicy filet steak.

        1. ce

“On the other hand I absolutely oppose data centres, they provide zero value and I also love me nice juicy filet steak.”… yes, down with the internet and our phones, and the pictures of the juicy steak we post to instagram…

          1. Ian - oG

We don’t need that many data centres here in Ireland to have decent internet or phones and I don’t use instagram nor do I understand why people might want to post pictures of their food on it but each to their own I guess?

Do you think there is some link between a disproportionate amount of data centres and phone ownership and internet access?

          2. ce

No, we use data centers for many things – and given the amount of data that every company in the country uses and the amounts that transit in out and through here, we conduct a lot of internet traffic compared to the size of our population… and that’s before digging to deep… Anyway there is no reason for a data center to be feeding off the regular grid they can be made self-sufficient… but once again Irish planning strikes…

          3. Ian - oG

Absolutely they are necessary but not to the extent they are being built in this country.

I do agree though about them being self sufficient, as an engineer I’d know a fair bit about energy reclamation and they simply are not doing enough in that respect.

They meet certain criteria but the criteria are shaky enough to begin with and drafted with a bias towards those running them ahead of the public good.

          4. ce

They have to go somewhere … why should we not have them as an industry given our various tech links… and we are one of the few places in the world that we can power them relatively easily and cleanly, if we get our act together… which we won’t… burn turf, grow the national herd, a Healy-Rae for everybody in the audience… so it’s our own fault…

          5. Me So Harney

            What’s this tech you mention?

So we can’t power them “alternatively”?

I dined on monk cuisine with catipillers sea slugs and other beasties in Malaysia decades ago
Monk cuisine is ancient health food
But the point is as we ignore farming our land we will see something like soynant green
          Watch the film
Chilling science fiction and as you watch it today it’s as though this is the future
Brainwashing children scientists with government planning our world
          No thanks
I see a future where only the rich will be able to enjoy things like meat fish vegetables
The rest of us will dine on this factory food of plant protein wth ground up insects
Cockroaches are edible and bluebottles all full of nutrients

That one or more spend their time on broadsheet.ie creating caricatures is pathetic. When the prevalence of said caricatures takes precedence over sometimes very serious topics- one had to wonder when fantasist becomes mental illness.

Anyways, Van Morrison to sue Robin Swann up north. That is how you do it- drag the pandemic terrorists into court and force them to justify their actions.

Of course said subversives consider themselves to be above the law and will do their level best to never appear in a court room- which is more the reason to make sure they do- preferably in handcuffs.

Looking forward to same in Dublin.

    1. Ronnie

At least you hold to your views and don’t have a caricature of yourself on here.
SOQ, you really shouldn’t let it bother you to much!

    2. Ronnie

“Pandemic terrorists” “preferably in handcuffs” seriously what is going on in your head?
The Pandemic was real SOQ and the professionals worldwide did make some mistakes on how to deal with it because it was a novel virus but you cannot deny that the vaccines have saved many lives worldwide. You’re on here spouting that people don’t understand the science, well prove me wrong?
look at the stats and prove to me, Has the Vaccination program done us more harm than good?

    3. ANO

You’re talking about a couple of lads looking to get a rise out of some strangers on the Internet, you shouldn’t let it get to you SOQ.

Archbishop of Canterbury calling for ‘forgiveness’ for Nonce Andy.

Wow, has he handed himself into the US authorities for sentencing then? No, then what’s with the looking for forgiveness then?

I’m quite the forgiving person providing the person I am forgiving is truly sorry for what they have done or perhaps it was an error on their behalf but if someone continues to protest their innocent, especially after handing over 10 million quid then they should get zero.

Anyway, despite the tone above I’m delighted to see this happening, Nonce Andy stepping back into the spotlight will only damage the royal brand further.

    1. TenPin Terry

      Further ?
You wait till this weekend to see how ” damaged ” the royal brand is.
Blighty is awash in red, white and blue.
There’s scarcely a shop window in our local town that isn’t featuring a display of royal memorabilia.
And there’s a run on sausage rolls in a kingdom planning the mother of all parties on Sunday.
It’s a bank holiday here tomorrow so it’s a day on the turps for the fragrant Lady TenPin and I.

Anyway, plenty of morons here, but at least it’s our own fault for electing the various shady folks who run the place, it’s not based on the first-out-of-the-vag rule….

However, the main issue is that the Archbishop of Canterbury is calling for ‘forgiveness’ for a despicable human with no remorse… and who is meant to do the forgiving, the general public who were not effected, or those who were actually involve…

        1. TenPin Terry

Forgiveness is at the very heart of Christianity.

I know they enjoyed Wills and Kate’s visit a bit too much but that’s the Cork people, a bit odd but generally harmless.

it’s also the 175th anniversary this weekend of the Gregory Clause, a Poor Law extension act that led to an excess of a million Irish deaths during the famine. Blighty may be awash in white and blue but it is absolutely doused in red. Throw another sausage roll into yourself and herself to celebrate.

” Royal Collection SUSPENDS Platinum Jubilee sales due to ‘unprecedented demand’ for items – with staff battling to meet orders for items including £40 tankard and £65 tea cup set. ”

And here’s all you need to know about the weekend’s events.

Thursday will see the celebrations kick off with the Queen’s Birthday Parade, which will involve Trooping the Colour and a six minute display by more than 70 aircraft including the Red Arrows and Royal Air Force Battle of Britain Memorial Flight.

The Friday will have a Service of Thanksgiving for Her Majesty at St Paul’s Cathedral, which will see Great Paul – the largest church bell in the country at 16.5tons – ring.

Saturday will be a more intense affair, as the Derby at Epsom Downs takes place in the afternoon, with the famous horserace followed by a Platinum Party which will see performances from the likes of Queen and Adam Lambert, Sir Rod Stewart, Andrea Bocelli and Diana Ross.

And things will wrap up on Sunday with the Platinum Pageant, which will see a huge parade as the Household Cavalry leads the Gold State Coach along a crowd-thronged carnival route from Whitehall back to Buckingham Palace.

This is a noteworthy story unlikely to make the headlines on the likes of the Irish Times, Guardian, etc.

    https://www.moonofalabama.org/2022/05/rape-allegations-against-russian-troops-in-ukraine-were-fake.html

Ukraine’s parliament have just voted to sack their government-appointed human rights ombudsman, Lyudmyla Denisova, citing her sensationalist claims about rapes committed by Russian soldiers which lacked evidence and also her apparent neglect of negotiations with Russia over humanitarian corridors and prisoner exchanges while spending her time in the comfort of places like Vienna and Davos.

As reported in the Ukrainian news agency, Interfax-Ukraine

‘[Ukrainian MP, Pavlo Frolov, stated] ‘The incomprehensible concentration of the ombudsman’s media work on numerous details of “unnatural sexual crimes” and “rape of children” in the occupied territories, which could not be confirmed by evidence, only harmed Ukraine and distracted the world media from Ukraine’s real needs.’

After Denisova’s sensationalist claims had been used as the basis of a number of headline-grabbing stories in various western media outlets, a number of NGOs and investigative journalists apparently tried to follow up on her claims, but found that them to be so hyped up that they were motivated to publish an open letter airing their concerns:

Quote from Ukrainian news outlet, Hromadske:

On May 25, a number of media outlets and NGOs published an open appeal to Lyudmila Denisova calling for improved communication on sexual crimes during the war.

The signatories insist that Denisova should disclose only information about which there is sufficient evidence, avoid sensationalism and excessive detail in their reports, use correct terminology and take care of the confidentiality and safety of victims.

“Sexual crimes during the war are family tragedies, a difficult traumatic topic, not a topic for publications in the spirit of the ‘scandalous chronicle.’ We need to keep in mind the goal: to draw attention to the facts of crimes” the appeal reads.’

As the article linked to above puts it, Denisova had become an embarrassment to the Zelensky regime – a weak link in a propaganda campaign. Her days were numbered.

Looking back over the comment sections here, there were many who repeated those claims about widespread rapes unquestioningly instead of treating them with a sceptical eye.

    1. Fearganainm

      Wall Street Journal, yesterday:

      https://www.wsj.com/livecoverage/russia-ukraine-latest-news-2022-05-31/card/ukraine-s-parliament-dismisses-human-rights-chief-1kQWT7i0GHXyeqh6spRe

Searching for ‘Ukraine MPs oust human rights commissioner’ brings up several reports from around the world, presumably from various press agencies lifting and repeating an original source.

There do appear to have been some verified instances of rape committed by Russian soldiers in Ukraine. Denisova’s lurid, evidence-free statements may be dismissed but that isn’t to say that rape did not occur at all.

      1. f_lawless

        @Fearganainm
Considering you yourself got sucked into the propaganda and were linking to Guardian articles that repeated Denisova’s claims, I would have thought the right thing to do here is to show a little humility; maybe even re-assess the reliability of some of the media sources you’ve been taking at face value.

What’s the point of this line:
“Searching for ‘Ukraine MPs oust human rights commissioner’ brings up several reports from around the world, presumably from various press agencies lifting and repeating an original source.”

Is it meant as a counter to my point that Denisova’s ousting as a propagandist is unlikely to get the same level of attention from those media outlets which amplified her claims? If so, it’s really poor and just adds to the impression that you’re lacking in judgement. I tried the same search “Ukraine MPs oust human rights commissioner” in google and duckduckgo. All the results that come up have an Australian .au extension (“around the world”?!) and the syndicated story has airbrushed out her fake rape accusations as a factor in the reason she was ousted. It makes no mention of it.

        1. Fearganainm

It’s a ‘breaking story’, that’s why it’s in .au and .nz sources first, it will leak into other agencies as they become alert to it. The Wall Street Journal isn’t a hidden away source either. The WSJ article clearly indicates that her claims were ‘insensitive and unverifiable’. Contrary to your allegation, I didn’t amplify Denisova’s claims as they became increasingly strident and impossible to verify. If ‘The Guardian’ quoted her that’s nothing to do with me.

Considering the quality of sources you use I’d say that you should be the one showing humility.

          1. f_lawless

I’ve heard some laughable excuses in my time but takes the biscuit.

According to you the Australian and New Zealand outlets are ahead of the curve – they’ve got the same syndicated article (which as I said, neglects to mention the rape propaganda aspect to the story). Why you think they would be ahead of the rest, I’m not sure – surely not because of the time zone? So the story appeared in Oz/NZ first, has managed to bypass any English language outlets in Europe (nothing comes up from the usual outlets on an internet search) and then appeared in the Wall Street Journal in an article (which at the time of writing, says “updated 20 hours ago”). I see nothing so far on the Irish Times or the Guardian websites about it.

I suspect there’s a current blackout on the story in this region. European citizens are in the process of being completely shafted under the pretence that all the hardships being imposed upon by our leaders in the form of sanctions are our duty to suffer because it will supposedly cause the evil Russians suffer too. There’s been a relentless propaganda campaign in operation to instil this narrative but it’s wearing really thin at this stage. I think a story about Ukrainian rape propaganda at this point in time was always likely to be marginalised/skewed or ignored.

You: “If ‘The Guardian’ quoted her that’s nothing to do with me.”
That’s quite funny in fairness. “Hey I only posted a link to an article that amplified her propaganda. That’s nothing to do with me. Contact the Guardian”!!

          2. Fearganainm

Athens moved out of Europe then? Who knew? Assorted articles are in the process of appearing, some with more detail than others. You must be disappointed?

And go find a post from me that amplifies Denisova’s claims – you don’t want to appear as if you’re making a false allegation, do you?

Incidentally, how DID the paedophile Scott Ritter, who you once championed, handle his false claim that the incel coach Gonzalo Lira had been murdered by the ‘Kraken unit of the Azov battalion’?

You have to laugh at your own ‘journalistic standards’, don’t you?

You have to laugh at the labels they dish out.

A month ago, when there was no eccentric behaviour to report on – just that he wouldn’t be facing criminal charges – the Independent pegs him as a marginal mad man: an “anti-vaccine extremist ” .”
      https://www.independent.ie/irish-news/courts/no-criminal-charges-for-anti-vaxxer-over-death-of-donegal-man-joe-mccarron-41604462.html

A month later, he’s witnessed behaving in an odd-ball way and this time he’s labelled by the same outlet as a “well-known anti-vaccine activist. “Anti-vaccine activist” is the kind of label the Independent would typically use to encompass all and any of those people who have shown public dissent against the Covid shots and the coercion to take them – no matter how well-reasoned the dissenting arguments made may be. And if he’s described as a “well-known” activist ,well, then he probably has gained some kind of prestige among the majority of those dissenters or is representative of them, right? (He hasn’t/ isn’t)

Can’t miss a good opportunity like that to try and spread the crazy around !

while the Taoiseach “warns” us of price hikes, other countries have measures in place so energy companies can’t take the pi$$ like the way ours our. (eg. we pay 26% more for electricity than the next highest in the EU)

Child passport applications will no longer be cancelled if witnessing garda can’t be contacted:

    https://www.independent.ie/irish-news/politics/child-passport-applications-will-no-longer-be-cancelled-if-witnessing-garda-cant-be-contacted-41711437.html

“Passport applications for children will no longer be cancelled if the witnessing garda cannot be contacted, the Fine Gael parliamentary party has been told. Foreign Affairs Minister Simon Coveney also told party colleagues the number of people working in the passport office will be increased from 60 at present to 140 in two weeks…”
