Mission Creep

Tanaiste Leo Varadkar at the 1916 Annual Arbour Hill Commemoration Ceremony last month

“I do think it would be possible for us to win a referendum on joining a European defence (force) but I think that’s why it would be important for us to be a part of designing it alongside countries like Cyprus, Austria and Malta, who also don’t plan to join Nato.

“We are not members of Nato and we have no plans to join Nato, but we have never been neutral politically, we have always been on the side of democracy.

Some people would talk about developing a European defence that is separate to Nato or almost in competition with Nato. That doesn’t make sense to me.

“It makes sense to me that there should be very close links between the European Union and any European defence and Nato – even though we may not be a member, we wouldn’t want to prevent cooperation or interoperability between any of those things.

I think Irish people have always seen defence and security as being more than military alliances so we’re very proud of the role that we’ve played in United Nations peacekeeping around the world.”

Shows you how little backbone he has when he desperate for us to join some sort of military gang!

    1. David

Well he endorses and supports an internal fascist military gang the police and I do not like the homophobiac comments but veruka always reminds me of umberto eco and especially Susan Sontag remarks on camp fascism

He is basically a fascist hologram

So basically Leo getting the big EU job is contingent on him getting us into some sort of EU defence force?

    Gotcha.

We’re already in one…we’ve been part of the Nordic Battle Group since 2010.
Our overseas mission to Chad was under an EU mandate.
Our military served/serves in Bosnia & Kosovo under a NATO command mandate.

We are already part of PESCO which is just lacking an arsenal
He signed us up a couple of years ago
Meanwhile long range weaponry is being dispatched to zelensky because he promised he would not use it into long range to Russia
These weapons can reach to Moscow and desperate people do desperate things
They are not happy in the Kremlin and maybe they will be watching them dispatched
And if I was Putin I would consider ensuring they will not reach Ukraine to use
      Maybe Shannon might be targeted

Doubtful he’ll get a big EU job. His inability to treat documents as confidential, and him being subject of the DPP impending decision on criminality is well noted worldwide.

      1. benblack

        Where have you been, Giggidy?

The whole world has discarded the rule of law and democratic principles.

Cometh the hour, cometh the man.

Plus, we get the leaders we deserve.

        1. GiggidyGoo

Now that you’ve put it that way – you’re probably correct. I’d think there are many others more qualified though.

          1. jonjoker

It’s not about “qualified” though, is it, as our Supreme Court can testify.
It’s more like favours done, or kicking an embarrassment out to touch.

sincere commiserations Gavin; that must be a terrible cross to bear,
      in fairness…

It’s the awful droning noise that issues forth, whenever he opens his mouth, that I find most offensive, apart from everything he stands for, politically, of course.
He is thinking strategically, of course. Should we pursue discarding our long-held neutrality, investment in our Armed Forces will be called for, although the real reason for a build-up of our military will be just in case we won’t get in the pods & eat the bugs, when Soros & Schwab tell us to.

An EU army on the cards again, it was only a matter of time. Might as well give the Germans the reins, what could go wrong?

    1. K. Cavan

The thing is, Kali, an EU Army would see Ursula von der Layen, a mad-woman, becoming Commander-in-chief of that army.
Recently, when asked to donate weapons to kill Russians, the German Army responded by saying they basically didn’t have any, as they’d been deliberately starved of funds by the German Minister of Defence, so they’ve had to order new weapons for the German Army, which frankly couldn’t fight it’s way out of a paper bag, which will be immediately donated to Nazis in Ukraine, to kill Russians.
Guess who the Defence Minister who downgraded the German Army was?
Why, Ursula von der Layen, of course.

It’s telling that Varadker sees referenda as something he wishes to win, rather than a project to consult the Public about their opinion on the matter, isn’t it?
If a government actually takes sides in a referendum it makes the process somewhat moot & very much less than democratic. With the weight of the government & their MSM behind it, a tsunami of propaganda would make the result a foregone conclusion.

  5. Dr.Fart

if he managed to get in all EU directives given to him we’d now have water bills on top of everything else we can’t afford, while getting the box room in the house back because your adult son has moved out .. to a military base abroad, preparing himself for the front line.
