The People’s Takeaway

at

This morning.

Animo TV, the makers of Ireland’s Fittest Family and The Great House Revival, are cooking up a brand-new competition series for RTÉ Two which ‘celebrates our love of the Takeaway’.

Finally, sez you.

Ann Power writes:

We are looking up and down the country for amazing independent takeaways to showcase their cookery skills and compete to be crowned winners at the end of the series.

This is a battle of Ireland’s much loved takeaways. Whether you own a Chipper, Chinese or a Burger Joint, we want to hear from you!

To apply, please email takeaway@animotv.ie with your name, number and the name of your takeaway. A member of our team will be in touch.

You must own an independent takeaway or food van. Unfortunately we cannot accept applications from sit-in restaurants.

    Dacent Munch in Cork.

The signature Dacent Munch burger is a double smash patty with buttermilk chicken breast on top.

    You won’t regret it.

First they get given out to for fat shaming with operation transformation. Now they’re given out to for promoting fat.

      Can’t win!

Ah yes, how to make the cheapest TV programmes.
I must pitch Animo my idea:

The team apply a coating of matt emulsion to a wall.
A member of the public takes a seat close to the wall and is recorded while they observe the gradual change which the emulsion undergoes over the following half-hour.
All it needs is a catchy name?

Maybe they should do a program on the rip-off prices before this. I’d a lovely day out in Kilmore Quay last Saturday. My yearly visit to the south of the county.

The much hyped (yet middle-of-the-road) Chipper there charges astronomical prices. God help holiday makers with families.

Fish + Chips + Cheeseburger? Not much change out of €17.00. If there was another bag of chips added to the cheeseburger order, then you’re looking at € 20.

Another chipper there has advertised on their take-away menu – € 12.00 for a cheese burger and chips.

So before they start hyping and ‘celebrating’ take-aways, maybe start questioning why the rip-off.

I’m just wondering why it’s hyped so much. If it was fresh fish caught that day it would be one thing ..

And many of those food vans are not inspected by the health department including their kitchens at home where they do much of the prep

So the fatties got up in arms over operation transformation…..Will they have the energy to be upset by this one I wonder

I could be wrong and have been many, many times in my life – but I believe ‘Ireland’s Fittest Family’ is produced by Kite Entertainment. However, the folks at Animo TV are very good people also.
    *awaits backlash

Takeaways are unquestionably part of our culture and I don’t see why they would be “cancelled”. Not a bad idea for a series. Are we that immature a society that we can’t be trusted to watch a programme about chips in case we eat nothing but chips?

Atrocious accompanying photo by the way – skin-on “fries” and super-imposed burger? Must try harder.
