            A faint hope, I’m afraid. Is Ireland an island? How many operas did Beethoven write? Does Hamlet exist? How is America governed? Does the earth travel around the sun? None of these has a simple factual answer.

            I think it’s wisest to throw a cordon of uncertainty around everything we hold to be true, however basic or immutable it seems. The next step, that the level of credence we lend to a proposition is influenced by our point of view, is a small one.

    truth = facts from the first person’s perspective
    history = facts from the point of view of the victor
    Science = facts that have been proven to be true under certain certain circumstances. Or things that have yet to be proven false.

    The word fact is derived from Latin meaning: factum: “a thing done or performed”.

    The only fact is that nothing is absolute..
