They’ve been created ahead of a protest that will take place outside the Dáil on December 10.

Yikes.

Your point has been refuted a number of times already yet you continue trotting out this line.

        1. ABM's Bloodied Underwear

See every other time you’ve written the above in every other Irish Water article?
Go back and read the replies.

Let’s hear your argument for not paying for schools. Since they’re obviously free at the moment and run on nothing.

    No Contract: No Consent.
That ole chestnut. Sheesh. Good luck with that.

    Also, It’s a ‘nation’s’ march.

    1. Mister Mister

And by bringing Denis O’Brien into it, they’ve made themselves look like a bunch of ill educated internet warriors.

      1. Drogg

Of course its not like he owns the majority of media in this country that is attacking the protesters or a huge benefiter of political cronyism or even the beneficiary of the downturn of the country while writing off his own debts.

    2. Drogg

Well its a case of these people are all sick of the current government but the Taoiseach isn’t willing to hold a General Election because he knows that his party is going to get hammered. Democracy works on the majority supporting their political choice but that is no longer the case here anymore.

      1. Wayne.F

Drogg, the democratic process and terms of office are quite clear in Ireland. The numbers protesting are about 50% of the total vote, for anti water charge parties and independents on the last GE APPROX 225,000 votes. FF/FG/LB received 1.6 million of the votes cast.

        1. Drogg

Do you honestly think that only the people out protesting on the streets, are the only people unhappy about the water charges?

          1. Wayne.F

Drogg, no I am sure there are those that object but don’t protest, but the cold hard reality is this. Governments are given a democratic maximum term in office. This particular one has the largest majority in the history of the state regardless of what I think of it.

Pro water charges, parties received 5-6 times the number of votes than the alternative in the last election, the current protest numbers are less than 3% of the entire population.

          2. Drogg

I know Wayne but FF and the greens did this as well they knew they had lost the popular vote but continued in office for another 18 months before calling a GE leaving us all helpless and in misery as the country sank into an even deeper hole.

      2. Mister Mister

“. Democracy works on the majority supporting their political choice but that is no longer the case here anymore.”

        Evidence ?

          1. Drogg

Yep you must have missed the current government on a 34% first preference but if you combine the sinn fein and independents which are the anti water charge brigade they are on a combined 48%. I especially like the break down of age groups and how it shows old people are skewing the national average of people that are not will to pay, as they also will probably be the biggest beneficiaries of grants and lower rates on water charges.

The march is on a Wednesday, so that’ll reduce the numbers by a good bit compared to the previous marches that were held on a Saturday.

    1. Rob_G

I wonder if they will sit in the middle of the road again in order to disrupt workers who actually have jobs…

        1. Walter Ego

Fair play Dissident Citizen Frilly! I have a job also, i’m taking the day off, paying for a train and will be there. I consider it our National Duty to stand up and be counted.

  3. Unreconstructed

So just to summarise, in order to march one must have perfect punctuation, avoid references to American words (trashcan) and any mention of Denis O’Brien. Got it. We must focus on the important things after all.

It is not a question of can’t pay, it is a question of won’t pay in order to set up a super quango that can award itself bonuses.

    1. Medium Sized C

That is a pretty bad summary.
You should probably stop looking for validation in a comments section.

      1. Unreconstructed

Thanks for the critical analysis. I can only take it to heart and hope to improve. Validation…FFS…

    2. Original Cynic

You must also be prepared to be accused of being a freeloader, unemployed, a “bin lid clanger”, uneducated, ill educated and numerous other insults I’ve had the misfortune to read on the comments section since the anti-Irish Water protest momentum took hold!

  4. Bobby

Will likely have as much of an impact as the march/gathering on that snowy Saturday morning a few years ago that was organised by Fintan O’Toole et al.

  5. Dissident Citizen Frilly!

Here BS. Any chance ye could re-float the Irish Gravy thread
I’m want to print off the art and use it as a placard
    If ye don’t mind

    Ta

      1. Dissident Citizen Frilly!

What did you put inta google to find in in the first puck?

        Ta. BTW.

        Anyone else wanna print off?

        1. Mikeyfex

I just googled ‘the thing what Frilly Keane is after this morning’ and it was the third link.

          No worries.

    1. Drogg

Because they are not just service stations, they have food outlets, coffee shops, etc, in them. So when you add all those places together and a 24hr 7 day week work schedule, you get about 105 minimum wage jobs and a couple of managers positions.

  6. Spaghetti Hoop

This slogan-ing is a pity. So many people are willing to pay for water usage but are opposed to Irish Water.
