And if peter Sutherland had his “humanitarian” way the Irish state would accept and house 5 to 600 indigent African families. How is this fair to the 1000+ homeless Irish citizens?
Kieran NYC
Yeah. Remember people being kicked out into the streets that time we took in Kosovan refugees?
Muppet? How? Surely African migrants will be housed? So how is that fair to those currently in mosney or in b&b’s?
Kieran NYC
Yeah. Those fleeing war and risking drowning really have it made.
No one is going to be made homeless because we showed some humanity to a few more souls.
Spaghetti Hoop
It’s a complex problem, but it could be relieved in a really noticeable way if the Gov. could just take their eye of political point-scoring and resurrect the Rural Resettlement Programme – which proved very successful when established 20 years ago. Transfer the funding of B+B and hotels to a relocation scheme for families and individuals and populate the declining towns. School quotas reached, areas revitalised, healthier environment for kids.

This broadcast is a year old but just as relevant; http://www.rte.ie/news/player/2014/0813/20632494-fancy-a-move-down-the-country-the-rural-resettlement-programme-is-looking-for-people-in-dublin-seeking-the-chance-to-make-a-new-life/
Thanks for that. Didn’t know anything about it.
Cheers Hoop. First I’d heard of it too.
It would be deliberately misconstrued and turned into a Joe Duffy-type political football so fast though.
“Labour are making me live in Cavan”, etc etc.
