The whole story stinks.
This is from The Blaze, Glen Beck’s little project that makes Fox News actually look fair and balanced in comparison. My immediate question would be how the landlord gained rights to the property – regardless of the lawless activities of the former occupants, surely either the lease stands and the surviving family should have gained exclusive access to the property, or, if the occupants hadn’t kept up their payments, the normal rules for evicting a tenant, including removal of property, should have been followed. Hope the surviving family (whom as far as we know has no guilt or blame in this matter) sues the landlord for every penny he got from the media.
Especially funny to see the comments blaming Obama for the access to the apartment. The wing nuts really do blame him for absolutely everything.

It depends on the nature of the lease, whether it’s regarded as a contract or an asset of the estate under California law, if it was rent stabilised and what the attendant conditions were, etc. etc. So you could be right but it’s not a slam dunk.
