This morning.
Belvedere Place, Dublin 1.
Slightly misleading Pro Life campaign poster as – mentioned last week – up to 40 per cent of women choose not to be screened for Down Syndrome.
Earlier: Dan Boyle: And We’re Off
Last week; Choice Operates Both Ways
Meanwhile…
This is in Dublin 12 on the main road between Crumlin Hospital (where many kids with DS attend) & a center for people with ID. The website on the ads doesn’t exist (I’ve sent complaint to ASAI already) pic.twitter.com/Y7xgCoxQvI

this is going to be a very emotional time with a lot of incorrect info form people who are using angles to drive their own beliefs.
But enough about the Saint Michaels College vs Terenure College SCT rugby bust up in Donnybrook….
Ha!
I wonder did that child give his consent for his image to be used that way?
Here we go ahead – the tactics of fear. Both sides will be at it.
Image? What does it matter ?, they…you know…
It would be a matter for any child’s parents, to give consent.
this lot have previous form though, so who knows…

Wasn’t that a case of models agreeing to model and then getting upset when their stock photos are used by people they don’t happen to agree with? That’s no one’s fault but their own.
In fairness to the anti-same-sex marriage folks: they paid money for a stock image, they are entitled to use in whatever poster they like.
Buying a royalty free stock image does not entitle you to use as you please. Conditions of usage apply.
This is why the pro-life campaign got into trouble before. Political usage has restrictions.
I heard it’s the kid of someone involved in the campaign and not a stock photo. They gave permission, though the child obviously can’t and is too young to understand what is going on.
Consent you ask? I wonder did the the aborted children give consent. Think not.
That’s a super-smart point. Any more of that ilk?
You sound like the sort who’d attempt to teach the catechism to a blastocyst.
That’s great. Insult the person but don’t address the inconvenient truth.
you’re perceived truth
your
What a nonsensical point, there are no children involved.
I love that their logo is completely unreadable.
How about letting people decide for themselves.
their church won’t allow independent thought
wemin deciding….pull the other one it’s got the Angeles on it

Don’t forget to pack a can of mace incase we run into some Garda members of Opus Dei.

the Irish cops are like midget cuddely fools compared to French cops
# anarchy or something
Ban posters for the referendum.
Abort the posters!
Referendum on the use of posters in the upcoming repeal the 8th referendum is the only sensible option here…obvs a few poster usage committees too
Send the posters on a ferry to England!
the posters are up the pole
or something
Ban them after 12 weak comments, surely?
personally I think everyone should view this referendum when boiled down is a war of ideologies…in the lead up it will descend into shouting & downright insulting & hateful behaviour. make no mistake it is a polarised situation & there will be worse than this poster wait & see
personally I am insulted at the use of Down Syndrome to support an argument in this way BUT I’m crystal clear on why it’s being done & reassured in the knowledge that the ONLY thing that matters is my vote which in my case will be for repeal.
my advice is & especially to any younger readers of BS…if you are interested in repealing the 8th make certain to get out & vote! hail rain shine man or lady flu….whatever the situation make sure you are registered to vote properly and ensure you get your arse to your polling station and vote!
there’s much much worse than that poster to come trying to confuse opinions & the thought process I can assure you BUT your vote is the ONLY thing that matters!
sooooo…the anti-choice brigade starting off with no gloves on. Guess we know what kind of referendum this will be.
Serious question Starina – is there any pro-life message/delivery that you would find acceptable? Any pro-life argument that you would perhaps disagree with but say “fair enough”?
According to the whois record it seems the savethe8th.org url is registered to one David Manly of some pro-life lobby group. And was registered as far back as 29th October 2015. (They have been preparing for this for some time!). Also I see the ASAI have a notice up saying that can’t do squat about posters on the 8th amendment unless is has a commercial angle. Does listing a website that has no landing page count?
“They have been preparing for this for some time!”
Because some people have been planning to remove 40.3.3 for some time.
Yes good point. I suppose 2015 is behind the curve even.
“One Billboard Outside Ebbing Support, Miss Sherlock”, surely?
