‘Her Name is Clodagh’.
A Claire Byrne Live Special.
Laura Fitzgerald writes:
Clodagh Hawe (39) and her sons, Liam (13) Niall (11) and Ryan (6) were killed by their husband and father, Alan Hawe (40) on August 29th 2016 in Virgina, County Cavan. Alan Hawe subsequently took his own life.
Tonight in a RTÉ Claire Byrne Live special, Clodagh’s mother Mary Coll and sister Jacqueline Connolly speak for the first time in regard to the unanswered questions about the murderers and to protect other women who may be vulnerable and in danger.
Four weeks ago Mary and Jacqueline were officially refused their legal request for copies of the Garda files from the investigation into the murders of their daughter and sister, and grandchildren and nephews.
They are now calling for a new and full inquiry into the murders of Clodagh, Liam, Niall and Ryan Hawe.

Relatives “were officially refused their legal request for copies of the Garda files from the investigation into the murders of their daughter and sister, and grandchildren and nephews.”
Are relatives generally able to get copies of Garda files? What would a Garda file contain? Details of people interviewed? Transcript of interviews? Crime scene photographs?
I can see sound reasons why this sort of info has to remain private to the Gardai.
Stop talking sense Eoin. Sometimes there are no answers and sometimes there is nobody left to blame. This was an awful event to happen to this family and they deserve support but for some people to say that not giving a file containing what I can only imagine is harrowing images is a conspiracy is just wrong.
What are they hiding, corruption or just the usual incompetence?
Or nothing?
Are you some sort of vegetable? Are you a carrot or a leek?
Did you watch it….
what sort of porn was he watching and masturbating to on the official school laptop…
why has the school managment not been in touch with these people since this horrific act…
im pretty damn sure there is a much bigger Garda investigation going on since that laptop was opend…
with the amount of crap the force is involved in im sure the lads involved in this case aint gonna fupp this one up.
harrowing to watch…but there’s a much bigger picture here.
Depression my arse.
Pride & shame over cold blooded murder.
Bastard.
Virtue signalling tootle pootle bumkins from RTE. Bloodsuckers.
What exactly is the “new and full inquiry” supposed to add? I can only imagine how horrific this whole thing must be for the family, but I’m unclear as to what more it is that the Gardai or the State is expected to do in regard to this investigation.
Didn’t the family of the kid who killed his younger brother just walk away with a wad of compo from the State because the State didn’t adequately address the earlier mental health problems?
Clodagh’s mother and sister are entitled to answers to any questions they ask. Questions swirling around their heads on Hawe is only tormenting them in their terrible grief and should not be allowed.
And what if the Gardai (or whoever) don’t actually have the answers to the questions they ask? Are they still “entitled” to the answers which don’t yet exist?
