Last Friday, we asked you to dedicate a song for your mother ahead of Mothering Sunday.
You answered in your tens .
But there could be only one winner.
Bertie Blenkinsop’s ma wins the Golden Discs voucher worth TWENTY FIVE EUROS.
Dutiful son Bertie wrote:
Please play Kate Bush [with Donal Lunny) – Mná na hÉireann for my mother because it’s beautiful and so is she…
Mmf.
Thanks all.

well done boss!
Are there similarities between Mrs B and Mrs Robinson then?
Awww, thanks lads, much appreciated.
To quote Spike Milligan, she’s a great little woman… :)
“September 3rd, 1939.
The last minutes of peace ticking away. Father and I were watching Mother digging our air-raid shelter.
“She’s a great little woman,” said Father.
“And getting smaller all the time,” I added.
Congrats, Bertie. Don’t spend it all in one shop.
Oh, wait…
Called it! YESSSSS!
Very well done, B
So the one who thinks his Ma is beautiful wins….what a weird competition.
FYI My Ma is a ride!
Sour grapes is such a good look on you, sweetie.
No sour grapes, just cheap Sauvignon, darling.
I just thought the winning entry would hold a premise which was slightly deeper than just beauty.
Ah well, ya live and learn don’t ya, next competition please!
But beauty is deep. Mere prettiness is one thing, but true beauty goes beyond, and into the soul of the person.
Add to that that the choice of song, Mná na hÉireann, was sung by a lady who understood not one word of Irish, but learned enough about what each word meant to be able not merely to reproduce the sounds, but to grant them a truly wonderful expression.
‘Tis a worthy winner, even if I did have tp play the song for me own mother meself… :)
Well Oxford English Dictionary defines beauty as….ah forget about it!
Fair play Bertie, hope she enjoys the win :)
