Hey, consider yourself lucky. I was once married to a lady from the US, and their mother’s day is in May. So, she benefited twice.

Admittedly I nearly got in trouble as I was out of town on the first mother’s day (Irish version) after our daughter was born and had flowers sent. As a result, they arrived as a surprise, and she thought I was cheating on her.

          Good times!

Please play “Breathe” for my mother this Sunday because my mum loves Prodigy. In a sit down relaxing with a glass of wine way. Was great craic sittin’ on the hill in Slane a couple of years ago with her watching them.

Well now. I LOVE that version. Saw him play with his trio in Vicar St: he’s brilliant.
Oh my God: just looked it up. It was 19 years ago.

  2. Paulus

Please play the late Big Tom’s “Gentle Mother” for my mother this Sunday because she’s had a hard time on this site!

  3. Marbe

Please play “She wore an itsy bitsy teeny weeny yellow polka dot bikini” because its the first record I bought for my Mother and she LOVED it.

  4. Boj

This is a brutal competition, you’re just gonna get sappy sob story entries for this one…so here goes….

Please play Europe – The Final Countdown for my mother this Sunday because I will be forever grateful for everything she has ever taught me. No human on this planet knows and cares for me better than my Mammy and I love her very much. This is genuinely her favourite song.

  5. Walter Ego

Please play Marianne Faithfulls, The Ballad of Lucy Jordan for my mother this Sunday because she really, really loves that song and recently told me that she wants it played at her funeral when she passes.

My Mam wants Highway to Hell for the mass and The Verve- The Drugs Don’t Work when she’s lowered…

      1. Walter Ego

My mate who sadly passed away a few years ago got Highway played at his. I thought it was funny but some of the senior mourners didn’t see the light side of it. You could hear some audible tutting when it was over. Feck ’em, its what my mate wanted.

  6. Kolmo

Please play the beautiful Rammstein classic “Mutter” for my mother this Sunday because the song title is the German word for Mother, most hilariously.

  7. Janet, I ate my avatar

There’s no point playing anything for my Mother she’s tone deaf and only likes hymns, so now

  8. Slightly Bemused

Please play ‘When You Walk Through A Storm’ for my departed mother. It was her favourite song.

For the mother of my daughter, although she will not hear it, I will be playing ‘Good Things’ by the Bodeans. It was her favourite song when we met.

Yikes! SOQ, you’re gay and from the North? Who would Adam and Adam have (I’m feeling this might not work so well?) …adameded it? Bernadette is my auntie’s neighbour – through back fields and beyond, she’s still alive. She was shot 14 times in her chest, by The RUC/British Army/Loyalist Paramiltaries and survived. She was the youngest woman MP, she was from my school, Head Girl.
Her pregnant daughter accused (falsely) of the fiasco in Gibralter Happy Mothers Day Bernadette! (My Mom died 9 years ago). It’s my reference?
Oh, my mom’s song, she was Kathleen:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X66cIgdcfGs

      1. SOQ

I only ever met Bernadette once and that was at a LGBT meeting where she spoke extremely well to the room, some of whom would have been heavy duty unionists. She did mention the whole Róisín thing and something about a computer disk that was found. For anyone who doesn’t know the history, her is herself in action.

Would love to hear ” Hearti of Gold” by Neil Young as my mam has a heart of gold.

  10. Mary

Please play in my life by the beatles for my mother this Sunday because I think of my own mam every time I hear it.

  11. I post things vaguely related to the image/subject

Please play Aimee Banks (Soprano singer from Galway) singing O mio babbino caro for my mother this Sunday because it’s the most recent music she told me she liked.*

    ___

*I can’t really remember the names of the other stuff she said she liked specifically.** It usually involves singing priests at Christmas or some showband manure.

    ___

**But I’m still a good son. I digitized all her VHS tapes last Christmas.

    1. Curated by Vanessa for Frilly Keane

Rod Stewart’s version of CCRs Have you ever seen the rain

This is in my own top 5 anyway

      But Rod was Fay’s favourite
      Across all his genres

Not a lot of us have met people who’ve seen Rod across five decades
in the Jeff Beck Group, New Faces, stretch pants disco days to his Song Book series
      She didn’t miss a note

      She loved his swagger
      His bling, his love life
      His humour
And really enjoyed that him and Ronnie were still the best ah’ buddies
And whenever she saw him on the telly
      Or come on the wireless
      She’d even say Hail Hail

      Anyway
I’ve no interest in the voucher
      But do yerselves a favour

Have You Ever Seen the Rain https://g.co/kgs/C81BVe

      All the best everyone

Please play “Ashanti – ‘Mother’ ” for my mother this Sunday because my Mum, Annie, deserves my thanks for all she’s shared; especially her love of music.
