Dublin Airport last Christmas

This afternoon.

The Dáil.

“I think in terms of people booking flights for Christmas to come home, I’d advise them not to do that at the moment.

“I know that’s difficult, I know that’s tough, but Christmas is six weeks away and it is too soon now for people to be booking flights to come home”.

Tánaiste Leo Varadkar.

Meanwhile…

Mr Varadkar said there are dangers that international travel could reseed the virus here.

Visitors still welcome.

Good times.

Yeah, don’t book flights for Christmas too come home to your loved ones, but if you want to fly in as a tourist, come on in !!

    Crazy!!

  2. george

I don’t see any calls for tourists to come. The government was never going to advise people to travel home for Christmas and isn’t advising tourists to come to Ireland either.

            Sigh

            not at all

191,000 over a 4-week period [your source] equates to around 300 passengers per hour on average

that’s not “plane loads…as far as the eye can see”

in fact, it’s echo-empty airport terminals where you can walk from gate to gate to gate without so much as seeing another person

and I know because I came through yesterday

sorry, micko, this is up there with your previous claim that you solicit the opinion of every shopkeeper every time you go into a shop and every single one of them has concurred that the whole thing is a load of nonsense

either you or your neighbour is talking sh1te

          2. Joan Burton

            Double sigh
Airport had and average of 5500 people a day at the moment (that’s in and out) , as opposed to 80000 a day for the same time last year

          3. Micko

            Wow

You took my “as far as the eye can see” literally

I don’t really know what to say.

So 50K people flying into the country every week isn’t a lot to you. Ok. Good to know

          4. Micko

Also, @Brother why is your anecdotal “evidence” is perfectly acceptable, but mine is of my experiences is not.

“and I know because I came through yesterday,” you say.

            Hypocritical much buddy? ;P

And I’m sure you’re flying for essential purposes.

          5. Brother Barnabas

            its not anecdotal, micko

passenger numbers are down from over 100,000 a day on average in 2019 to around 6,000 a day – that’s a massive drop

and the numbers off long-haul flights are down even more

so your claim that there are plane loads of Americans coming in every day simply isnt true

        1. Joan Burton

Your neighbors full of it , most of the American flights have a load factor in single figures , full of freight but not disease ridden yanks

          1. johnny

there was study done…..there alway is,maybe bit dated,as this is changing at velocity speed but,but its about yanks flying ‘home’ infecting the irish…

“An outbreak of 59 cases of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) originated with 13 cases linked by a 7 h, 17% occupancy flight into Ireland, summer 2020. The flight-associated attack rate was 9.8–17.8%. Spread to 46 non-flight cases occurred country-wide. Asymptomatic/pre-symptomatic transmission in-flight from a point source is implicated by 99% homology across the virus genome in five cases travelling from three different continents. Restriction of movement on arrival and robust contact tracing can limit propagation post-flight.”

Great that we are free of the virus and are making sure it’s not reseeded. Oh, we’re not!
Another non-performance from the Leaker of the Fine Gael Party.
He will be rolled out to make all sorts of announcements over the coming weeks in the hope of rehabilitation.
However, the fact still remains is that he leaked a confidential government document to one of his mates. If he’d any cop on, he’d resign.

    1. MME

      Ah Jaysus- low wattage Shinnerbottage.

You’re on the A-team Giggs, day, morning, noon and night trying your very best.

      Shape up or ship out!

Sounds totally sensible approach in the middle of the global pandemic. Of course there will those who fetishise over the pictures of people arriving in the airports, and then crying again as they leave in January. But lets get with the programme and stop putting our first world concerns ahead of national health.

  5. Joe

The rotisserie taoiseach LeoTheLiar has lost any credibility in advising anyone of anything due to his disgusting leaking of confidential documents and worse behaviour. Our Brexit neighbours have correctly banned flights from Denmark due to a coronavirus mutation that may or may not have serious implications. Grovelling Greenwash lickspittle Eamon Ryan continues to allow flights from Denmark. Truly the FFFGGP need to be dumped from government a.s.a.p.

    lol
Varadker must only have mates in the travel business, not close mates tho
the kind of mates he’d only meet two or three times a year
    not mates mates like
