This morning.
Back to you, Frank.

This morning.
Further to Golfgate…
Vua RTÉ
A meeting of the board of the council, made up of 11 members, including Chief Justice Frank Clarke was convened at short notice this week. It was due to take place on Wednesday, but will now happen today.
It is understood there is no fixed agenda for the meeting and a “general discussion” will take place.
It comes in the middle of an unprecedented crisis for the Supreme Court following the attendance of Mr Justice Woulfe at an Oireachtas Golf Society dinner in Galway in August.
The judicial council was responsible for publishing the review of former chief justice Susan Denham into the issue.
It also published a transcript of her interview with Judge Woulfe and indemnified her in relation to any potential legal action in relation to the matter.
Judicial council board to meet for ‘general discussion’ (RTÉ)

G’wan the Woulfe. Putting it up to them.
brillant expose of the lack of class and moral cowardice common amongst the so called rulling elite, cowards the lot them.
Toby whinging about anyone breaking restrictions apart from FG appointees.
The only move left available to the judiciary, is actual resignations in protest.
Woulfe clearly intends to make such a liability of himself that he will only go in exchange for a massive pay-off.
This
That building has class man.
that man has none though.
Roddy Doyle could script this general discussion.
‘Ah shur what more can we do…’
‘Aye.’
‘Any plans for Christmas, Frank?’
What’s the skinny with McEntee, and the appointment of Woulfe. Is she in a spot of bother?
Hard to get any sense of the actual seriousness of the matter I’ve found. FG comment section brigade are across all platforms.
Enlightenment welcome.
she should certainly be in bother
she should explain to the dail why she thought that woulfe would be a good fit for a supreme court judge when hes never even sat in another court.
his application was approved above a number of serving other judges who would have had a body of caselaw that they could point to in support of their application. woulfe had none
in honesty, the appointment of judges is broken and mcentees behaviour is another symptom of this.
that said, i wouldnt be surprised if clarke attempt to bounce this back to the govt is to punish them for promoting woulfe ahead of serving judges
‘that said, i wouldnt be surprised if clarke attempt to bounce this back to the govt is to punish them for promoting woulfe ahead of serving judges’
What are you talking about? Woulfe was recommended by the JAAB, which is chaired by Clarke.
I’m aware of that. clarke appears to be acting that when a cabinet discussion happened that the other serving judges would be given better consideration than someone who had never served on the bench at all.
clarke wasnt to know that mcentee wouldnt bring the serving judges to cabinet
We saw during the Disclosures Tribunal that the best way to muzzle a former AG (Maire Whelan) is to appointment them to the bench. So McEntee was following her instructions on that one.
We can suspect from Woulfe’s appointment, and this scramble to protect him, that Woulfe knows where the bodies are buried. Or where Martin Callinan’s old phones are.
Such utter drivel. They cannot impeach him for something so minor. Denham already concluded that it was not a sackable offense. If I was in his shoes I would not resign. It is beyond unreasonable to expect him to just swallow his pride and allow his entire professional career to be so negatively defined by the reputational damage that would come from resigning. I would wager the majority of his peers and most other professionals in this country empathise with his position.
FFFGGP is now in full panic mode now that all of the opposition wants to question Helen McEntee about the appointment. The stinking smell emanating from her office gets stinkier by the second.
Hopefully there will be more revelations to follow
yes.
