From top: Pope Francis; Irish Catholic Bishops Conference in St Patrick’s College Maynooth in 2013

This morning/afternoon.

Via The Irish Times:

It is “morally permissible” for Catholics to accept a Covid-19 vaccination which involves the use of cell lines derived from aborted foetuses, the Irish Catholic Church has said.

The Catholic Church traditionally teaches that it is unethical to use stem cells derived from aborted fetuses in medical research.

However, in a statement on Wednesday, the Irish Catholic Bishops’ Conference said Catholics could accept vaccines using these stem-cells if a more “ethically acceptable” alternative is not available.

“Questions have arisen that human foetal cell-lines, which have their origins in abortions carried out in the past, are used in the development and production of some of the vaccines for Covid-19,” the statement said.

Good times.

Who would have thought that a group, filled primarily with “high-risk” members, would come such a conclusion?

so the results of abortion are fine when it suits them but unbending to save a mother’s life or a raped child’s future.. funny that

This is a welcome clarification from the Bishops to the faithful (everyone else can ignore it….if they can bring themselves to). The issues surrounding stem cells derived, sometimes very distantly, from aborted foetuses has been ongoing for years. It is a complex issue….despite how comments above try to simplify or dismiss it. The nuance is missed by many on either extreme (those who scoff at any notion that their may be a moral aspect to such issues, and those who claim that vaccines are evil.)

This piece is a good overview of the topic.

They need to get the c̶o̶l̶l̶e̶c̶t̶i̶o̶n̶ ̶p̶l̶a̶t̶e̶s̶ pews filled again by any means necessary and if that means backtracking on decades of longstanding antiabortion campaigning, well so be it!

Venal hypocrisy at the heart of the catholic church once again.

Nothing nuanced about the catholic church. They deal in absolutes until they suddenly decide that they don’t, almost like they’re making it up as they go along!

“Nothing nuanced about the catholic church.”

My point is, they deal in nuance far better than you.

..”almost like they’re making it up as they go along!”
Thats what happens when applying stable doctrine to novel matters. Neither Jesus, St Ambrose, St Clare or John Henry Newman had to answer the direct question of ” is it ok to take a vaccine that prevents a serious disease that has been made using cells derived from a line of cells originally taken from an aborted foetus?” The church today does have to answer it.

The catholic church is not who you think it is.

The Vatican enters into a global alliance with Rothschild, Rockefeller & Ford Foundation through new “Council for Inclusive Capitalism.” Ford is a supporter of abortion rights & gender ideology. Rothschild backed Hillary Clinton. Rockefeller supports LGBTQ rights.
