Jesus Christ. Yes, heartbreaking. Well done for that young man to reach out for help. I hope the situation improves for these two families.

Not much hope of it getting better really. Our Govt are criminal in how they treat the marginalised and poor. Anyone who votes them in voted for this. Simple.
Leo & Simon having a caper on TikTok today of course is much more relevant if you looked in the Independent. Or the SF database etc…

It’s really awful that children have to deal with this. Rents are extortionate for thousands of families. Crooked economics hurt the poorest and most vulnerable people.

I am aware of many many MANY organisations carrying out similar roles, despite it not being their core role or part of their plans. These organisations seen a need in their respective local areas and acted upon it and are allocating staff to organise and distribute food parcels to many needy people. This is nationwide and yes its 2021 and we should all be ashamed of ourselves especially those with the power to change this

I read this wondering just what kind of administration we have that causes a young boy to write to a sitting Councillor to seek food for his mam who is struggling and his little friend who obviously has little or nothing also.

This post should be focused on this week by Cabinet and Cllr Smollen supported in the incredible work he and his support workers do. Some Ireland isn’t it …. ‘the Ireland we dreamed of’ … that sees some Ministers have up to ten advisers costing 100K each; advisers …. ffs ! And even with all that they can’t get it right.

Then look at the Grace report and its delay – some five years in the making, subjected to lengthy delays …. justice is slow for the vulnerable for sure. Its on today’s examiner front page (scroll back to Broadsheet papers)

And finally look to the latest revelations by Terry Prone to the Education Minister via Ken Foxe twitter ‘Right to Know’ dated April 22nd.

Honestly you couldn’t make this up!!!

Thank you to Ken Smollen for the incredible work he’s doing. Hats off to you Sir.

HAP is destroying this country. When it was just Rent Allowance, there was a cap and rents stayed under that cap in order to get tenants that could pay. Lifting the cap has caused rents to skyrocket, forcing people to pay extortionate amounts leading them to choose between rent and food. Politician landlords gouging more out of the taxpayer.

granted HAP is not perfect but it’s a hell of a lot better than rent allowance. for a start, rents rarely if ever stayed under the rent allowance cap. rent pressure zones were introduced to cap inflationary rents but were only of limited success because landlords, both then and now, would happily end tenancies early on the grounds of selling the property before moving another tenant in at a higher rent.
rent allowance? if you did a day’s work it came straight off your payment and you had a pig of a time explaining it to the health board, who shouldn’t have been within an arse’s roar of a housing budget. rent allowance was the very definition of ‘not fit for purpose’.
