While living in London, working in the city i had opportunity spend some time in Brighton, the poor mans Las Vegas or is that Blackpool:)

I do build things and read,so while researching ‘small off the grid Scottish/English farmhouses’ at the RIBA site i came across,a review on books about the British Seaside.

“Will Wiles takes us on a local, UK holiday, with this selection of books on British seasides and their architecture.”

      https://www.ribabooks.com/i-do-like-to-be-beside-the-seaside

Funland: A Visual Tour of the British Seaside, a large-format collection of photographs by Rob Bal

“a nagging undercurrent of melancholy and dereliction, the feeling of something past its best”.

This is happening in upstate NY/Berkshire’s/Vermont,if Ireland gets, really some decent broadband it could happen.

Some very smart hipster money in NY/LA is chasing the remote worker with a lot less to offer ,other than high speed reliable access, than the glorious west Ireland has.

but…” Seaside towns rank among the most deprived paces in the country. But it would be a mistake to regard this dilapidation as inevitable, especially when the nation’s habits of living, working and holidaying are changing”

when the NY Times does a deep dive in the RE section you just know its peak Brit Seaside resort, great Sunday morning read in NYT,made me quite nostalgia for Brighon, some good times Charger.

The triage nurse, what’s your name.
CE, says he/she gasping for air.
Sorry, we don’t take fake names at real hospitals says the real nurse.

      1. ce

But Dr. SOQ, Dr. E’Matty, Dr. Micko, Dr. Info_warless, and Dr. Bodger have posted all those very informative videos demonstrating quite clearly and conclusively that it’s all fake… don’t tell me you’d believe a fake nurse over the real internet doctors…

        1. Tom J

They are not real Dr’s, they just like playing Dr’s and nurses because they haven’t grown up yet.

        2. SOQ

Of course the fact that hospitals are always busy this time of year is to be ignored. As is the fact that they done absolutely frig all to increase capacity in the space of twelve months, while squandering billions.

But carry on with the juvenile goading, one-upmanship is that is all that matters eh?

          1. bisted

…that’s just Bodger showing off with his grasp of norn iron idiom…he’s a great man for the absurd and bizarre…he cut his teeth with ABM and invented this ridiculous character…

          2. benblack

            Thanks for clarifying.

There is more chance of that being true than dying from/with Covid.

            Let’s lockdown humour.

          3. Poor oul divil

            It’s a very plausible explanation
Kind of like Viz when they would bring back Sid the Sexist

        3. E'Matty

I’m just proud to be listed with such an illustrious, honorable, intelligent and honest group. Thanks Ce.

          1. ce

But we would solve housing, education, and health all in one by lowering the population in about 18 months… why can’t we see the opportunity here SHEEPLE…

          2. Tom J

What if all the builders, Dr’s, nurses, teachers, died during the pandemic. Where would that leave us.

          3. Tom J

It’s not mantra, it’s what the bereaved family say when a family member passes away be it from Covid or any other illnesses.

          4. John

“I’m just proud to be listed with such an illustrious, honorable, intelligent and honest group” of …..Westboro Baptist Qanon rabbit hole divers!

There fixed it for you :)

          5. benblack

And, then, there’s John, fixing the universe; building one antimatter particle after another.

            Build back better.

        4. Micko

          Ahem…

Cool that the “YUR not a doctor” line is still relevant in 2021

I don’t think anyone has ever said it’s all fake.

It’s much more complicated than that.

And giving blind allegiance to others and not understanding science yourself is a bad idea.

Here’s a man much smarter that us ALL, jexplaining why.

          https://youtu.be/1Ox8fqPCbMM

          1. Micko

Yes, but giving away your own power to try to rationalise and understand the science to the “all knowing experts” is tremendously dangerous.

Especially when so much of the science is not settled and still up for debate and especially as it has gotten so politicised on both sides.

Take CE’s and your original posts here Tom. The ones gloating and then calling people out for not having medical qualifications.

Do they smack of science or politics?

Do they sound like debate or dogma?

            I’ll let you decide…

          2. E'Matty

Tom J oblivious to the fact he sits in the ignorant camp. Sagan rightly identifying the danger of the unquestioning Tom type in a society run under the guise of science. It is dissenters who are the only true defenders of the scientific method whilst Tom and his cohort are the religious fanatics shouting “heresy” and “burn them” should anyone dare challenge his high priests and their corrupted gospel.

          3. Tom J

            Dear, E’Matty,
            Carl Sagan was an astronomer.
As regards your attempt to insult me you have failed miserably. I am neither in a camp nor religious.

          4. Micko

I do find it funny people’s absolute unwavering deference to the medical profession.

As if they were superior to yourself in every way. In reality they are experts in very specific studies and of course are subject to all the same flaws and mistakes as us mere mortals.

The late great Kenneth Williams had them pegged ;)

            https://youtu.be/CdDtwc9HA7s

          5. benblack

            Ah, Tom.

How could you find fault with anything Sagan said in the posted video, or, with Sagan’s scientific mind?

          6. Tom J

I am as sceptical of him as I am of all people, he is talking about science and technology, just like the phone or computer you are using to comment on Broadsheet, which I’m also sceptical of.

          7. Tom J

No, the word technocracy is not mentioned. He is talking about science and technology and people’s understanding of it. Anyone can do a computer course, I know people who are older than the state who can use computers.

          8. benblack

He does not use the word ‘technocracy’, however, he does define it perfectly and the threat it poses to democracy.

By the ability to use computers do you mean to data mine, to hack, to be pwned – in short, to take control of ignorant computer users’ computers because they are ignorant of programming languages, and, thus, fair game?

          9. Tom J

I don’t think someone who is older than the state is going to hack your computer or phone, but we should always be careful because you never know who you might be talking to.

3500 staff off, patients sicker than ever before – they genuinely seem under a lot of pressure. A stunning rebuke of a failed vaccination program.

          1. SOQ

That Story in The Times is quite the surprise. Unless I have read it wrong, we have government wanting to give everyone a third jab, while NPHET is advising against it.

We also have NPHET admitting that the vaccines do little to prevent transmission, which by inference is saying that passports are useless.

          2. GiggidyGoo

They’re just mixing it, confusing the issue etc. etc. SOQ. That report was a ball of brown stuff. Surprised it even got past the editors.

    2. Duncan Wheeler

What a nasty little mind you have there ce. Sniping and abuse is your only contribution. Get some mental health help.

      1. SOQ

There is 3 or 4 on this site. Nasty individuals with no real views of their own- narcissists and probably sociopaths. In one case prepared to throw homo sleaze without proof while dancing on people’s graves.

How much it would take for the Crossmaglen Credit Union to upgrade a rustic Peugeot diesel tractor to a stylish Telsa?

The extraordinary true story of eccentric British artist Louis Wain (Benedict Cumberbatch), in which the amazing virtues of brisk walks beside the sea,are also beautifully lustrated (seascape),off for a long brisk walk myself, shortly.

This happened 25 years ago in Cali, perhaps retired (early)Garda Superintendent,John Murphy’s pic would not be splashed all over the Sunday World,if there was not so much corruption and collusion btw dirty cops and gangsters, but those THC laced candies….how much blood is on Murphy and treasure in his pocket?

-Prop. 215, aka The Compassionate Use Act of 1996, legalized medical cannabis in the state of California. It granted those with a doctor’s permission access to cannabis from criminal prosecution regarding the possession or cultivation of cannabis.-

The proposition not only inspired a movement in California, but nationwide and internationally, except in Ireland.

Luke O’Neill spewing the usual guff. His pronouncements haven’t stood the test of [short] time.

    He stated
    – ‘Vaccinations are stopping transmission.’ (No they’re not)
    – ‘When vaccination reaches a high level ‘the virus goes away’ ‘ (No it doesn’t)
    – ‘We can prevent Covid through vaccination’ (No you can’t)
    – ‘All of the vaccines, including AstraZeneca, will prevent you getting sick and ending up in hospital.’ (No they won’t)

It also believed that once you get coronavirus you will become immune from it again and O’Neill believes this may be the case. (He obviously will peddle anything that will make him an, ahem, influencer).

    1. Bitnboxy

So why did your mad auld gummy low born dog rough-self get vaccinated then GiggidyGums?! Why in all that is sane and rational did you haul your sad ageing derrière to a vaccine-centre to get vaxxed – not once but twice?

      Answers on a postcard please…

      ;-p

Of all the lowest value contributions to the site – and there are many – yours are in a league of their own Boxy

…in fairness, Eamo was doing blah blah blah before Greta was born…his green flag of convenience has served him well…

    2. f_lawless

Does seem farcical alright – as Micko points out, us ordinary plebs are told to accept the initial results on face value and are never advised to seek out further testing to confirm or negate the validity of initial results. How often are the results inaccurate?

On top of that, if we’re keeping the faith in PCR testing, surely Ryan should have been obliged to take a third test before it was decided that his initial test was a false positive. How can it be concluded for sure that the second test wasn’t a false negative?

      There’s been previous cases reported in the media where an individual has had two conflicting test results and has then had to take a third test in order to confirm their Covid status. eg.;

      https://swimswam.com/lithuanian-swimmer-cleared-of-false-positive-covid-test-in-japan/
A Lithuanian swimmer had a COVID-19 scare upon arrival in Tokyo last week ahead of the Tokyo Olympic Games, initially testing positive for the virus that has spun the world into a pandemic over the last 18 months. Multiple follow-up tests, however, came back negative, leading to the conclusion of a false positive on the first test..

..An initial PCR test on July 9 came back positive, but a second test came up negative. After a third test on Saturday, he was determined to be negative”

      1. benblack

In Eamon’s case, f_lawless, an inconvenient truth converted to a convenient lie to convey a liar to a liar’s lair where truth is denied and declared a denial.

        Poetry in motion.

        Blah, blah, blah.

      2. Micko

“ surely Ryan should have been obliged to take a third test”

That’s the question that ANYONE with a scientific mind would ask lawless.

Unfortunately, we’re in the realm of dogma now.

    1. Micko

      Cool.

My 7 year old got her vaccine on Friday.

      Her FLU vaccine of course.

Coz that’s a disease that’s actually dangerous to kids.

A shot up each nostril is all it takes. ;)

Get your kids vax’d folks, just make sure it’s to protect them and not some old fart.
