Last night.
Mark Lanegan, the singer for grunge pioneers Screaming Trees and frequent vocalist for Queens of the Stone Age, died yesterday Morning at his home in Killarney, county Kerry. He was 57. A cause of death was not disclosed.
This (above) was one of his last performances for Other Voices in Dingle, county Kerry.
Via Irish Times:
Shortly after the publication of his 2020 memoir Sing Backwards and Weep, a raw, harrowing saga of addiction, destitution and grief, Lanegan and his wife Shelley Brien moved from California to Killarney, a place they’d first visited when they appeared on Other Voices in 2004.
“A friend of mine had a house here. When I became reacquainted with the physical beauty of the place and made some really good friends right off the bat, the warmth of those people made it an easy place to stay. Sometimes I have trouble with the high voice accent, but I’m learning…”

Godspeed.
Lanegan had a greater depth to his writing than many of his generation. I was hoping to catch him live at some point. His memoir ‘sing backwards and weep’ was a fairly grim read. Salut

Devil In A Coma recounting his time in a Kerry hospital is a good read too. The guy could write.
He could. I respected the way he was so honest and self depreciating. I liked the fact that he’d moved to Eire & imagined him getting old & grizzly – playing occasional shows in Rosins etc. I’ll tackle ‘Devil In A Coma’ at some point, it would be a bit too upsetting for me to read it right now.
