Faster!
This morning.
Custom House, Dublin 1.
The Office of Public Works (OPW) announced it will plant 190 native trees across the country to mark its 190th anniversary this year, having been founded in late 1831.
Minister for the Office of Public Works, Patrick O’Donovan planted the first tree, a native Sessile oak, at the Custom House, which served as the first office for the OPW 190 years ago.
The OPW is responsible for the implementation of government policy for Planning & Estate management, Heritage, and Flood Risk management.

Meanwhile…
Where did the Millenium trees go? One planted for every household in the country?

Anyone?

190?! Thought I’d misread so went back – still one miserable hundred and nine miserable tens. 190 thousand would make a statement of intent (native v scabby imported conifers) rather than provide 190 photo-ops for g*bshites.
Some old ruins like castles and monastic remains have been rehabilitated or made safe and accessible to the general public. The OPW has done some fine work, but more money is needed around Ireland for restoring and making other sites available.
Soon we will not be able to see the woods for the trees
Maybe if the OPW STOPPED CHOPPING DOWN MATURE TREES AND LINING RIVERS WITH CONCRETE AND DRAINING BOGS AND THE GOVERNMENT SHIFTED AGRIFORESTRY POLICY FROM SHORT TERM HIGHLY DAMAGING SITKA PLANTATIONS ON BOGS AND IN PROTECTED AREAS AND LEGAL PROTECTIONS FOR DISAPPEARING HEDGEROWS OH AND HOW ABOUT PUTTING WIND TURBINES IN PLACES THAT AREN’T BOGS, THAT WOULD BE GOOD, BUT SURE PLANT A FEW TREES HAPPY CLAPPY.
190 trees. It’s a friggin insult.
3 Pal flegs for Gemma no less.
What does that mean?
