Barry McCormack – Do Not Abandon Hope

Chronicle of a pandemic foretold.

Dublin troubadour Barry McCormack (top) was eerily prescient in this song from last year’s acclaimed album Mean Time.

Barry says:

“The lyrics warn of a superflu that starts with a ticklish cough.”

The video was shot in New York by Barry and Linda Lahdenpera and edited by Colm McCarthy.

Nick says: Any advice on the Lotto numbers, Barry?

Ryan O’Shaughnessy – Lucky One

Remember being able to freely travel the world?

Eurovision star Ryan O’Shaughnessy’s new video reminds us of the pre-Covid world as he cuts a swathe through South America, having a blast.

Ryan (top) says:

“The song reflects on the importance of acknowledging each experience that life puts in front of you and remembering to be grateful for the good and accepting of the bad.”

Nick says: He’s got the luck.

Eimear QuinnThe Watchman

Our Eurovision queen returns with a new album Ériu (top), named after the mother-goddess of Ireland.

This windswept video is for Eimear’s collaboration with lyricist Brendan Graham and the arrangement is by the RTÉ Concert Orchestra.

Eimear says:

“This collection of songs comes from my heart, with immense joy and gratitude, tracing the musical landscape that I have had the great fortune to gradually inhabit over my career so far.”

Nick says: The mighty Quinn.

Foot Squeaker – No Connection

Fancy going for a jog through the deserted streets of a post-lockdown town?

Then may I present the new video by Foot Squeaker from Gorey, County Wexford. Singer/guitarist Diarmuid Comerford and bassist Mick Byrne are a chip off the rock of ages.

The video was directed by Mike Lynch with studio footage by Cein O’Dowd.
