Sunday, October 21 will be remembered for a long time for those who witnessed the world class conditions under the Cliffs of Moher, Co Clare, Ireland.

From Magic Seaweed:

The swell came courtesy of Hurricane Rafael, a fast moving system which shot a powerful beam of condensed swell in an arc around the Atlantic basin. [Justine Dupont] The 21-year-old World Tour surfer travelled with the Billabong Adventure Division from her home in Lacanau, France to surf the big-wave spot.In the over-subscribed and unquantifiable “best ever” category, this barrel has got to rank up there in pure heft with any tube ridden by a female surfer in Europe.”That was an amazing day of surfing,” Dupont said afterwards. “It was more than a session, it was a mission. From getting smashed paddling out to surfing that perfect beautiful wave, it was a day I’ll never forget.”

Rescued baby dormice at the Secret World Animal Rescue Centre in Somerset, found squeaking and motherless in a hedge last month. Founder Pauline Kidner sez:

They are being fed on honeysuckle, blackberries and chopped nuts and if their weight reaches 40g before winter, then we will release them back into the wild, but if not then we’ll look after them for release in the spring.

European airlines will have to compensate passengers by up to €600 if their flights are delayed by over three hours following a landmark ruling by the European Court of Justice yesterday.

Europe’s highest court upheld a 2009 decision which ruled that passengers flying within the EU who suffer significant flight delays have the same rights to compensation as passengers whose flights are cancelled.

It will pave the way for passengers to claim millions in compensation. But consumer advocates said they did not anticipate airlines would make it easy for delayed people to claim.
