IRELAND COULD hold back up to 50 per cent of the proceeds from the sale of State assets for domestic investment following agreement with the EU-IMF, Taoiseach Enda Kenny has said.

The original agreement allowed the State to keep just a third of total sales to spend on infrastructure and jobs.

“The change now is that that will be significantly higher. It could be – I stress could be – as high as 50 per cent,” said Mr Kenny.

Minister for Finance Michael Noonan and Minister for Public Expenditure and Reform Brendan Howlin would not be drawn on a figure during a press conference on the bailout programme review.

This comes after Mr [Paul] Connolly [who represents Denis O’Brien’s interests on the board] yesterday began a legal action against the company over a €1.9m compensation package paid to outgoing chief executive Gavin O’Reilly.

RTE has learned that directors agreed at a heated board meeting to recommend that shareholders oust Mr Connolly from the board at its AGM in June.

You may have missed last Friday’s livestreamed town hall meeting from Bray, Co Wicklow, on the fiscal compact treaty with Shane Ross and Constantin Gurdgiev and hosted by Wicklow TD Stephen Donnelly. Shane Ross, who remains ‘undecided’ on which way to vote in the referendum, used some of his time explaining what it may mean for Ireland if François Hollande wins.

Mysterious green clouds have been spotted over the Russian capital, sparking fears of a chemical disaster and even some doomsday theories. But the Emergencies Ministry is advising the public to calm down. It says the clouds are actually composed of birch pollen, not of chemicals from an allegedly burning factory in the Moscow region, as some reported.
