What you may need to know:

1. Less a trailer, more a teaser produced for last night’s MTV Movie Awards.

3. Who’s Zod? The brilliant Michael Shannon, from Take Shelter (2011), Bug (2006), The Runaways (2010) and Revolutionary Road (2008). Think Chris Walken’s creepier nephew.

4. Advance word on Man Of Steel suggests it’s the bad-ass Superman movie that the patchy (at best) Superman Returns (2006) really wasn’t.

5. Kneel before Zod.

Release Date: Summer

What you may need to know:

1. Did we mention that the trailer was NSFW, didn’t we?

2. Yes, it’s an adaptation of Irvine Welsh’s novel

3. Leo DiCaprio Syndrome Sufferer James McEvoy is trying hard to look all fat, middle-aged and boozy and stuff.

4. That Trainspotting sequel is officially on for 2016.

5. Well, at least they don’t give the plot away.

What you may need to know:

1. Documentaries aside, has there ever been a great motor racing movie?

2. Thor is James Hunt!

3. It’s shot by Danny Boyle’s go-to guy, Anthony Dod Mantle. Looks sharp.

4. It’s directed by Ron Howard. We’re more excited by his forthcoming return as the narrator of Arrested Development.

5. If Robert Duvall doesn’t play Murray Walker, we’ll be pissed.

6. What about a Barry Sheene biopic?

Release Date: Summer

Elysium-poster2

What you may need to know:

1. The guy who made District 9 (2009), the best sci-fi movie of the 21st century that isn’t Moon (2009), finally made a new movie.

What you may need to know:

1. After too many give-the-whole-movie-away Hollywood trailers of late, this is a tonic.

2. The director and star of Drive (2011) are BACK! And they’ve gone to Bangkok!

3. There will be blood. Lots of it.

4. he Gos is taking a break from acting. He’s going to direct a movie instead. He’s already got a Terrance Malick movie in the can. Very Sean Penn altogether.

5. Meet Ryan Gosling, Arts Administrator

6. ‘Wanna fight?’

What you may need to know.

1. Here’s the first proper trailer for the new version of Stephen King’s classic – we’d go remakes of Cujo (1983), Firestarter (1994), It and The Stand.

2. The Brian De Palma version from 1976 remains untouchable. That much is a given.

3. Julianne Moore = evil ginger.

4. We’re kind of sick of trailers that show absolutely bloody everything.

5. Prognosis: Redundant, but fun (see also: forthcoming Evil Dead remake)

Release Date: October

What You May Need To Know:

1. The Pinapple Express (2008) posse are back! First came the bullshit trailer for PE2 – thankfully, it’s not happening.

2. We had the first trailer for this a while back. This one’s better. Much better.

3. He was lost in a bit of a post-Oscar malaise, but James Franco has just scored back-to-back hits with Oz The Great And Powerful (2013) and Spring Breakers (2012). the latter of which features his finest turn in years.

4. This Is The End is the first movie directed by Seth Rogen and his writing partner Evan Goldberg. Rogen badly needs to get his mojo back after The Green Hornet (2011) and that ill-advised Streisand road movie. That said, he’s still only 30.

5. The Michael Cera comeback starts here.

6. ‘HERMIONE JUST STOLE ALL OF OUR SHIT’!

2 GUns poster Washington Wahlberg

What you may need to know:

1. Denzel Washington is a bad-ass.

2. How much of a bad-ass? He makes that beard work.

3. Mark Wahlberg, in the right movie, kicks ass. Mark Wahlberg, in the wrong movie = Planet Of The Apes (2001).

4. We do love a buddy movie.

5. @1’40 BILL PAXTON! The only actor to be killed by all three of sci-fi’s Holy Trinity: The Terminator (1984), Alien (1986) and Predator (1987). Fact.

6. 58 year-old Denzel is getting in touch with his inner action hero. Its called Doing A Neeson. Next up, he’s getting his Edward Woodward on in The Equalizer.

7. 2’38. Cool guys never flinch at explosions.

8. The great Fred Ward is in the movie, but not in the trailer. Big Mistake.

9. Otherwise, this looks like a ton of fun.

What you may need to know:

1. First came Before Sunrise (1995), then came Before Sunset (2004), now Richard Linklater, Ethan Hawke and Julie Delpy complete the trilogy.

2. The premise: Ethan and Julie go for a long walk, and talk about life, love and getting on. It’s better than we’re making it sound. Before Sunset, in particular is a bit of a classic.

3. The first Before… took in Vienna, the second was set in Paris – this time out it’s Greece.

4. Ethan Hawke went from Gen X pretty boy to hollow-cheeked indie polymath; last year he had a hit movie (Sinister) and got cut out of the Total Recall remake.

5. Slacker maven Richard Linklater has been out of vogue of late; we’re still big fans. His other newish movie, Bernie (2011), starring Jack Black and Matthew McConaughey, is superb.

What you really need to know
–
1. The last Wolverine film was what we politely like to call a good bad movie.

2. This one takes place after the third X-Men flick, The Last Stand (2006), which was what we politely like to call a turd.

3. It’s loosely inspired by Chris Claremont and Frank Miller’s classic Wolverine comic book mini series.

4. It’s all about the dodgy green screen fight sequences. Very Roger Moore-era Bond.

5. Jackman’s finest Wolverine moment to date? His three word cameo in X-Men: First Class (2011).

6. Is it just us, or do you keep expecting him to burst into song?

7. Wolverine’s back in action in next year’s X-Men: Days Of Future Past (2014), whereupon original X-director Bryan Singer attempts to amalgamate the entire X-Men movie universe to date. Good luck with that.
