1. It’s the other Die Hard in The White House movie – the one that doesn’t have Gerard Butler in it.

2. It’s directed by German auteur Roland Emmerich, who has  blown up the White House over the course of a film-making career, which includes such masterpieces as Independence Day (1996), The Day After Tomorrow (2004) and 2012 (2009).

3. It stars Channing Tatum, Jamie Foxx as President Django, Maggie Gyllenhaal as Girl, and JAMES WOODS.

5. Broadsheet Movie Pitch: Kick Aras, a topical thriller where a militant bankrupt builder holds the Irish parliament to ransom, and only disgraced Garda Jonathan Rhys Meyers can bring him down. Featuring Brendan Gleeson as The President Of Ireland, Domhnall Gleeson as a weaselly Junior Minister and Brian Gleeson as Squeebag.

What you may need to know:

1. KOTT is the new film by writer/director Mark O’Connor, who impressed
us with his debut, lo-fi Dubcore crime caper Between The Canals (2011).

2. It features Peter Coonan, AKA Fran from Love/Hate.

3. It also features veteran traveller actor Michael Collins, AKA Blackie Connors from Glenroe.

4. We’ve already seen it, and we liked it a lot.

5. Greatest Screen Traveller Of All Time? We’re torn between this and Dana in Flight Of The Doves (1971).

1. It’s a documentary about Wikileaks.

2. It’s directed by Alex Gibney, who did Enron: The Smartest Guys In The Room (2005) and Mea Maxima Culpa: Silence In The House Of God (2012)

3. It’s one of any number of Wikileaks movies in the pipeline, including one starring Benedict ‘Definitely Not Khan’ Cumberbatch as Julian Assange.

4. Where is Julian Assange? He’s living in the basement of the Ecuadorian Embassy in London, although Broadsheet are in advanced discussions to share an office space with him at an unspecified location in Tullamore. Don’t tell anyone.

1. Ryan Gosling does studio crap like Gangster Squad (2013) so he can do little indie movies like this.

2. Place Beyond The Pines reunites The Gos with the dude who made Blue Valentine (2009), officially the worst date movie EVER (with the possible exception of Amour).

3. Bradley Cooper is an indie guy now? Really?

4. Fact: simple backwoods folk do not actually look like Eva Mendes.

5. @ 1’26: LIOTTA!

6. It’s two hours and twenty minutes long. We’re factoring in at least an hour of Ryan on his bike, pouting.

1. Big Boyler Chris O’Dowd just won’t stop: there’s a new series of Moone Boy in the can, talk of an IT Crowd special AND this new BBC/HBO co-production.

2. It’s the first TV series created by Christopher Guest, the genius behind Waiting For Guffman (1996), Best In Show (2000) and A Mighty Wind (2003) – he’s also Nigel Tufnel from Spinal Tap (1984) and the six fingered villain from The Princess Bride (1987).

3. The cast includes Guest regulars Michael ‘David St. Hubbins’ McKean, Ed Begley Jr. and the mighty Fred Willard.

4. Now you know why O’Dowd has been rocking the beard – clean shaven, he looks about 12.

What you may need to know:

1. The title of the Alan Partridge movie is finally revealed in this teaser…

2. Steve Coogan has been talking up a Partridge movie for a decade. Can it possibly be his masterpiece?

3. Partridge went off the boil for a bit round about the time of his last BBC series, but last year’s Mid Morning Matters on Sky was a classic, and his autobiography hit the back of the net.

4. Coogan finally embraced the fact he’s gonna be Alan forever, and promptly delivered another genius creation – Moone Boy’s Francie ‘Touchy’ Feeley. Bring him back.

5. Declan Lowney directed the Partridge movie, and Colin Meany co-stars. We’re excited.

What you may need to know.

1. We didn’t realize that there had been a Scary Movie 4 (2006). And can’t really remember Scary Movie 3 (2003). Or 2 (2001).

2. The original Scary Movie was a piss-take of Scream (1996). This one does Paranormal Activity (2007), Mama (2013) and Evil Dead (1981), ahead of next month’s remake. Topical!

3. Hey, everybody! It’s Ashley Tisdale from High School Musical!

4. Fourth Sign Of The Movie Apocalypse @ 1’19: Charlie Sheen & Lindsay Lohan have done a movie together.

5. We can’t believe they go a full fifteen seconds before someone gets hit in the nuts.

What you may need to know:

1. The first Kick-Ass (2010), well, it kicked ass. So here’s another one, based again on comics by Mark Millar and John Romita Jr. The sub-title? Balls To The Wall.

2. Kick-Ass director Matthew Vaughan got snapped up to do another fine superhero flick, X-Men: First Class (2011). This time out, he’s producing.

3. Replacing Nic Cage in the scene-chewing supporting role: Jim Carrey, who, between this and Burt Wonderstone (2013), looks like he gives a shit for the first time in ages. Now can we finally have that Dumb And Dumber (1994)  sequel?

4. Aaron Taylor-Johnson-Wood, who plays Kick-Ass, has been putting in some gym time. He also just landed the lead in the Godzilla reboot.

5. Broadsheet Prognosis: Dodgy green screen work aside, this looks like a TON of fun.

1. Matthew McConaughey is now officially The Man. Start with The Lincoln
Lawyer (2011), and go from there.

2. McC and his amazing ass were robbed of Oscar nominations for Magic Mike (2012).

3. He’s got a HBO series in the can, a cop buddy drama co-starring Woody
Harrelson that will presumably involve a lot of drawling. They’re like
a buff Cheech And Chong.

4. He’s also in the next Scorsese movie.

5. Mud is a little indie from the guy who made the awesome Take Shelter (2011).
Reese Witherspoon’s in it too, but that’s OK. She gets a career-long
free pass for Election (1999).

1. It’s the new movie from Sofia Coppola.

2. It’s based upon a true story.

3. It stars Emma ‘Harry Potter’ Watson (above centre).

5. Broadsheet Prognosis: Sure, she’s a one-hit wonder, and a one trick pony, but it’s a catchy hit, and a cool trick. We’re the only people who liked Somewhere (2012).
