Last night.

In the Clayton Silver Springs Hotel in Cork.

The Labour Party held the first of its four hustings in the leadership contest between Alan Kelly and Aodhán Ó Ríordáin.

During his speech, Mr Kelly said:

“Friends, if you elect me as the leader of this great party, a fantastic party, I will make the party relevant again.

“I will make it connect again and restore confidence in our members.”

During his speech, Mr Ó Ríordáin said:

“Politics is about what we do. But it’s also about how we make people feel. And if people feel that we have let them down, well then we have.

“And then we have to rebuild that trust and indeed to start again.”
