2021 National Brown Bread Baking Competition finalists, from top: Siobhan Hassett, Louise Taylor, Martin Malone, and this year’s winner Aisling O’Toole

This afternoon.

Unidentified location.

Scenes from the final of the 2021 National Brown Bread Baking Competition, sponsored by Aldi. Held in association with the National Ploughing Association and The Irish Country Women’s Association, baker Aisling O’Toole took home a €15,000 prize and will have her bread on sale in Aldi stores for twelve months later this year.

Our money was on Louise with her mountainy crust. Better luck next year.

Ladies, less flour you’ve outdone yourselves.

This morning.

The overall winner will see their bread on shelves in 137 Aldi stores nationwide and a share of the profits “guaranteed to be at least €15,000”.

A lot of bread.

(Pause).

I’ll get my housecoat.
