Sunday July 19: Hotter Than July @ Meeting House Square, Temple Square, Dublin (Free, from 2pm)

Nialler9 writes:

If the likes of Caribou, Todd Terje, Hozier and Chemical Brothers at Longitude in Marlay Park aren’t your thing or you’re being more fund-conscious, Improved Music Company and DCC’s free event in Meeting House Square on Sunday is worth a go.
It features a lineup of international flavour from West Africa (Manden Express), Indonesia ( NCH Gamelan orchestra), Ireland (Ensemble Eriu), the Balkans (North Strand Kontra Band) and more in collaboration with the Big Bang Festival. Trad, jazz, bluegrass, samba, funk and more.

Musictown: Sound of Silents @ IFI (Friday 8pm and Saturday 1:30pm / €10/€12)

Nialler9 writes:

Musictown , the 10-day city wide celebration of local music and its many guises kicks off this Friday. There’s lots of free events worth a look from the Breaking Tunes music trail, Public Enemy’s Hank Shocklee and opera on the streets.

The big event this week Barrytown meets Musictown, a celebration of Roddy Doyle’s Barrytown Trilogy featuring Richard Hawley, Imelda May, Glen Hansard, Colm Meaney and more is sold out now so I recommend Sound of Silents, silent films given live scores from Seán MacErlaine, Shane Latimer, Sean Carpio and more…
