Nialler9 writes:

Alexander Nut and Floating Points’ London Label is one of the best in the UK for electronic and soulful music. On Friday, both founders will be DJing and playing live and the presence of the singer Fatima (above performing La Neta), who released one of my favourite albums of the year makes it a must-see.

Saturday September 20: Cloud Castle Lake, Somerville @ Whelan’s, Camden Street, Dublin (€10)

Nialler9 writes:

Culture Night has lots of events of interest this year on Friday night but apart from that, there’s the free BlueFire Street Fest in Smithfield on Saturday and Saturday night sees two of Ireland’s young talents: the jazz/indie/rock trio of Cloud Castle Lake launch their debut EP Dandelion with support from the bewitching Maria Somerville. Singer Daniel McAuley’s’ falsetto might not be for everyone but there’s no denying the nuanced arrangement in a song like Sync (above).

Going to the Electric Picnic this weekend?

Music writer and DJ Nialler9 provides some ‘away from the main stage’ attractions.

YOKES!

Friday
“There’s lots of Irish talent on Friday. One of the best new rock bands in Ireland Girl Band play Body & Soul main stage on Friday night. The A/V electronic duo Clu have just released their best work yet (see video ) and they play RBMA on Friday night. Drop into the Oxjam tent all weekend, where you’ll see the likes of electronic-folk duo Carriages in lineups put together by Homebeat, State.ie and Abner Brown’s. Also, a tUnE-yArDs set is one of the most uplifting things you’ll see all weekend so don’t miss it.”

Saturday
“Montreal’s Kaytranada is one of the promising electronic producers around, his head-nodding R&B and hip-hop influence remixes for AlunaGeorge, Janet Jackson and his solo material are top notch dancefloor workouts. John Wizards fuse sound of Africa’s traditional past to its present to make a beguiling and glorious dub-infused, Auto-Tuned, tropical, funky, R&B electro music. Greg Wilson was the first DJ to scratch live on TV, his set at Casa Bacardi is a guaranteed good time. If you’re looking for somewhere late to finish things, Jerry Fish’s Electric Sideshow is hosting newly popular Dublin club Together Disco from 1am to 4am.”

Sunday
“One of my favourite new bands of the year Glass Animals, are playing their atmospheric R&B-influenced guitar music, Jungle are going to bring the one of the songs of the year ‘Busy Earnin’ and a set of nostalgically-charged sunshine soul while if it’s something local you’d like, try Galway’s Somerville’s spectral music or Cork’s Stevie G & The Deep South Soul Soundsystem for a boogie.”
