Former Glenroe actress and first-time opera director Mary McEvoy (above centre) – who is helming Mozart’s ‘The Impresario’ –  with cast members Rory Dunne and Sandra Oman launch the 20th season of Dublin City Council’s Opera In The Open.

Taking place every Thursday in August between 1-2pm in the Amphitheatre at Wood Quay the performances are FREE to attend and begin TOMORROW. The season includes works from Mozart, Stravinsky, Donizetti and Gounod.

Scenes from Puccini’s opera Turandot performed in celebration of the Chinese New Year at Meeting House Square, Temple Bar in Dublin at the weekend.

Sylvia O’Brien as Turandot, Declan Kelly as Pong, James Nelson as Calàf, Simon Morgan as Ping and Sandra Oman as Liu.

There will be a reciprocal performance of Darby O’Gill and the Little People in Tiananmen Square on March 17th.

In the run up to yesterday’s last-ever Oprah Show, emails have been flooding in from fans. Inevitably, given the similar spelling, some have ended up being sent to the browser company Opera, whose accommodating staff have been collating the best as a kind of oblique farewell tribute.
