Speaking in the Michigan House Of Representatives on Wednesday against a new regulatory bill on abortion and arguing that her Jewish faith allowed for therapeutic abortion when the mother’s life is in danger, Rep Lisa Brown said:

“I have not asked you to adopt and adhere to my religious beliefs. Why are you asking me to adopt yours?” she said.

But what came next is what got her in trouble: “And finally, Mr. Speaker, I’m flattered that you’re all so interested my vagina, but ‘no’ means ‘no.'”

Yesterday the Detroit News reported:

“‘What she said was offensive,” said Rep. Mike Callton, R-Nashville. ‘It was so offensive, I don’t even want to say it in front of women. I would not say that in mixed company.’
“Majority Floor Leader Jim Stamas, R-Midland, determined Brown’s comments violated the decorum of the House, said Ari Adler, spokesman for the Republican majority.”

Brown has since defended her use of the word “vagina,” saying it is the “anatomically medically correct term.”

The Superbowl ad of Republican Senate Candidate Pete Hoekstra, currently campaigning for the seat of incumbent Democrat Senator Debbie Stabenow.
Asked to explain the apparent racial stereotyping of the ad (gong sounds, conical hat, rice paddy, Engrish), a spokesman for the Hoekstra campaign rejected such a characterisation, saying:

“I think that China is our global competitor and the facts are what they are,” said Ciaramitaro. “They hold $1.1 trillion of our debt, their economy is booming, ours is not. It’s not a racial overtone to compare yourself to competitors on the global stage. I think the viewer of an ad is going to recognize satire.”
