Stop that!

Cliodhna McAllister writes:

In preparation for our production of ‘Masterpieces’ at Dublin’s Smock Alley Theatre (March 2-7 at 7:30pm nightly), we wanted to get some perspectives on the big questions at the heart of the play:

Is porn good?

Is porn bad?

Is porn responsible for creating and encouraging real-world rape or violence?

To do that, we interviewed experts in the fields of assault legislation, victim support, porn, horror film, and kink for a short docu series called ‘Masterpieces: Face to Face’. The first episode is up now (above) interviewing Seanad candidate Ruth Coppinger.

Masterpieces (Smock Alley Theatre)

Next week.

Gaslight at the Smock Alley Theatre, Exchange Street Lower, Temple Bar, Dublin 8 (December 3-7).

From the 1938 Patrick Hamilton play and its 1940 and 1944 film adaptations.

Presented by Dublin’s No Drama Theatre group.

The lights go down…the truth comes out!

Jonathan Shortall writes:

Set against the backdrop of Victorian London in the late 19th century, Gaslight [from the 1938 Patrick Hamilton play Gas Light and its 1940 and 1944 film adaptatiotns] ells the tale of Bella Manningham: a gentle, devoted wife who believes that she is slowly going mad.

Each night, as her husband leaves the house to attend to business, she hears strange noises in the attic…

Gaslight is a gripping tale of suspense, thrills and the pursuit of truth!

Starring Declan Ryan, Elizabeth Ann Doyle, Helen McGrath, Philip Arneill and Siobhan Hickey.

Blindfolded theatre, you say?

The Gospel according to Matthew J Anthony, Smock Alley Theatre, Dublin

“An evening where the shackles of preconception can be swapped for the immersion of darkness. The performance won’t happen in the dark but you won’t be able to see. If you’re there, you’ll be blindfolded. Why? Why not…? Imagine the possibilities; give your eyes a break, give your ears a gallop.”

March 31.

But first listen to  Matthew here.

Good, isn’t he?
