Last month, Craig ‘just a dude who lives in Chicago’ Shimala decided to make a time-lapse video. It’s really rather good. Sez he:

June was the first month this year that I had no travel plans so I challenged myself to wake up everyday at around 5am to capture the sunrise on downtown Chicago. I’m pretty proud I was able to wake up 29 of the 30 days at such and early hour of the day. Each shot you see in the video is in sequential order. 9 of the 30 days Mother Nature did not cooperate and provided either rain or heavy overcast skies. As a result, those days were left out since the captured footage wasn’t much to look at.

Music: Spark Mountain by Umber.

Ocean Sky: an award-winning time lapse film of Australia’s Southern Ocean Coast by ‘hobbyist astronomer’ Alex Cherney. Sez he:

In August 2009 I took my first long exposure photograph of the night sky. I was so thrilled with the results that I dedicated most moonless weekends since then to photographing two things I love the most in nature – the night sky and the Ocean.

Music by Redmann.

Full screen or not at all, this one.

By Spanish astrophotographer, Daniel López:

Aunque mi especialidad es la fotografía astronómica, también realizo otros trabajos fotográficos y vídeos, todos relacionados con la naturaleza, paisajes y lugares interesantes en los que siempre trato de sacar algo nuevo y dar otro punto de vista diferente y “mágico”.

Spanish photographer, Enrique Pacheco’s time-lapse chronicle of his travels through Iceland. Sez he:

Iceland is much more than the volcano Eyjafjallajokull. Iceland is the place where the light is made. It has the most amazing light I have ever seen, endless sunsets in summer, crazy northern lights in winter and beautiful colors all the year.

If you lived there, you’d vote to default on loan repayments, too.

This is just gorgeous.

The Mountain by Terje Sorgjerd: time-lapse of the terrain and the sky above Teide Observatory on Spain’s tallest mountain. Sez he:

A large sandstorm hit the Sahara Desert on the 9th April and at approx 3am in the night the sandstorm hit me, making it nearly impossible to see the sky with my own eyes.

Interestingly enough my camera was set for a 5 hour sequence of the milky way during this time and I was sure my whole scene was ruined. To my surprise, my camera had managed to capture the sandstorm which was backlit by Grand Canary Island making it look like golden clouds. The Milky Way was shining through the clouds, making the stars sparkle in an interesting way.

Full effect at full screen with the sound up.

Music: ‘Nuvole bianche’ by Ludovico Einaudi
