The Glasswinged butterfly (Greta oto) gets its name from the fact that the tissue between the veins of its wings lacks the coloured scales of other butterflies.
Its Spanish name is ‘espejitos’ (little mirrors).

Glass Frogs – amphibians native to the cloud forest of Central and South America, whose internal viscera, including heart, liver and intestinal tract, are visible though the translucent skin of their bellies.
Scientists agree that the translucence provides some evolutionary advantage. But they’re not sure what it is.
