A mini doc about infographics, Google Maps and the ubiquitous, ever-evolving data visualisations of the modern world by PBSoffbook, what sez:

Data has emerged as such a critical part of modern life that it has entered into the realm of art, where data-driven visual experiences challenge viewers to find personal meaning from a sea of information, a task that is increasingly present in every aspect of our information-infused lives.

A masters thesis animation made by Daniel Sierra at the School of Visual Arts in New York. Sierra describes the calming, mesmeric piece as an attempt:

…to visualize waveform patterns that evolve from the fundamental sine wave to more complex patterns, creating a mesmerizing audio-visual experience in which sight and sound work in unison.

Additionally this was an opportunity for me to create a song and visualize it at the same time. Being interested in the aesthetics of linking sound and visuals, this was a very exciting project for me. It gave me the chance to experience the process of creating music and visuals simultaneously as they both influence each other. At the same time I learned a lot about simulation effects, particles and procedural animation. The animation was done purely in Houdini, using Houdini’s VEX language to create the tool that could generate and animate waveforms. The music was made in Reason.

Full screen HD for best effect.
