It would appear to be the most oafish and tasteless gameshow ever conceived, but Weg van Nederland (‘Mad about the Netherlands’), to be broadcast on Dutch TV tonight, actually has a provocative liberal agenda.
Contestants on the one-off game show from the public broadcaster VPRO, part of an annual week of experimental programmes, comprise five asylum seekers who have exhausted legal avenues to stay in the Netherlands and await imminent deportation to their country of origin.
They compete in a quiz about Dutch culture, history and language, with the winner awarded €4,000 (£3,500) to help cushion them when they are expelled. Consolation prizes include a bulletproof vest.
Dose Dutch. Dey are jusht brilliantly bonkersh, man.

Actually, it’s not a fox at all. Up to 34kg in weight and over a meter tall, this is the tall and smelly Maned Wolf (Chrysocyon brachyurus), South America’s largest canid.
The mane is erectile, and is typically used to enlarge the wolf’s profile when threatened or when displaying aggression. The maned wolf is also known for its distinctive odor, which has earned it the nickname “skunk wolf.”
