Hi guys. This is Hannah McCleane, age 13, who yesterday had her lovely long locks chopped for charity in our salon! It’s for the Rapunzel Foundation which takes in donations of ponytails to make wigs for children who are going through cancer treatment.
She was also raising money for the Irish Cancer Society by getting sponsored to have her hair cut. She is a fantastic young lady and thought you guys should know about her.
It’s obvious how the Awaglass by StudioNote measures time. But how much time?
Frankly, who cares? You don’t spend ¥5250 (€54.60) on this class of a yoke because you need a chronograph. You buy it to turn over and over in your hands, slack-jawed, mesmerised by the bubbly shenanigans.
Then one day, you crack it open when you run out of Fairy Liquid.
Cisco this week released its Visual Networking Index – a report that tracks internet traffic patterns around the world.
It predicts, among other things, that internet traffic will surpass 1.3 zettabytes (one trillion gigabytes) by 2016.
But the biggest story here, as it increasingly will be, is mobile. Mobile traffic will rise steadily and explosively over the next four years, Cisco projects. While the compound annual growth rates (CAGR) for fixed Internet and managed IP hover at 28 percent and 21 percent, respectively … Cisco expects that the CAGR for mobile data will be a whopping 78 percent by 2016. The Internet, increasingly, will be portable.

MORE THAN 14,000 current and former staff of Eircom are set to share a tax-free windfall of about €125 million following a decision by the board of the employee share ownership trust (Esot) to wind it up after the company recently emerged from examinership with new owners.
This would amount to an average tax-free payout to Esot scheme members of €8,928.
Since the establishment of the Esot in late 1998, members have received, on average, about €62,500 each, depending on when they joined the trust.

After weeks insisting that one of the country’s biggest banks, Bankia, did not need fresh funds, ministers dropped the bombshell last Friday that there was a 23-billion-euro hole in the accounts. They have yet to explain clearly how they will find the money when they are already struggling to finance a spiraling national debt.
From the screens of SHIELD’s hovership to the various iterations of Tony Stark’s HUD helmet display, a lot of thought went into the creation of the Avengers’ user interfaces.
Visual artist Jayse Hansen sez:
Included are some partial explanations of how the HUD diagnostic functions Variations of it in ‘all clear’ mode, and a ‘battle mode’, after the suit has suffered damage and new windows have popped up to show depleted weapon stores and hazardous environmentals and general.
The flight menu was designed with input from an A-10 Fighter Pilot. I like to keep my stuff accurate – while still taking design liberties that films afford.
I start all designs on paper so I included some ideas for the dock icons. When I sketch stuff out – I find it important to not use a ruler and give yourself ‘permission to draw badly”. In the final icons, the more detailed versions show system status based on the way they animate.
Cargo Collective has a massive image dump of screens and displays from the series for your delectation (give it a minute to load).
“Shouldn’t you be diving in there and saying hello. Bertie Ahern would have been right in there. You’re missing all these opportunities to persuade them.”
Reporter Michael Crick on the campaign trail in Dublin this morning.
Quite literally toe-curling.
