Barry writes:

A new study of death rates in children under 5 was published today in The Lancet. According to the study, Ireland has the third worst child death rate in western Europe, with 4.6 deaths per thousand births. Malta, with 7 deaths per thousand births, ranks worst in western Europe, with the UK coming in second on 4.9 deaths per thousand births.

This puts us far behind other western European countries like Iceland (2.4), Sweden (2.7) and Norway (3.0).

Pretty interesting figures in the context of the resounding rejection by GPs of the Government’s plan for free GP care to under sixes, no?

I also can’t wait to hear Iona, Youth Defence, the Life Institute, etc. coming out in force to lobby for something to be done. After all, they care about children. ..don’t they?

Anyone?
