And just as they’re about to light it, the whole thing topples over and crushes their nasty little selves..

Absolutely right, racism is not a problem. I’m white, Irish and live in Ireland and I can tell you I’ve never been a victim of racism. Even when I do leave Ireland and go for two weeks holiday to one of those white foreign countries around the corner. Banter.

Yeah. Ha. Slavery, ’twas all just a bit of craic.
A trip aboard La Amistad was just like a cruise in the med.

Credit when due – Thats a genuinely impressive structure. True, it was built by fully grown men, who presumably took a few days off work to gather the pallets and build it, but it puts the pathetic Halloween efforts in my neck if the woods to shame. Children of Ireland – up your f***ing game.

I wonder when they were at the top did they happen to notice that there was a world outside their estate too.

They’re sick of all of them foreigners Qoming over here. (Farsical is a much better pun, in fairness)

“We’re not racist we just don’t like n****’s”

    Appalling. Another errant apostrophe.

Sign at bottom says they “Were not Racists” this implying they now are racist, one can only guess perhaps this change in attitude came about following a real think through of the issues of racial difference and social equality

  6. Llareggub

In fairness now it’s only ‘cotton picking n****s’ they have a problem with. I’m sure they are lovely to all other people who don’t pick cotton.

Some goms been watching Missisippi Burning.

To be clear, they only claim that “Wee R” alone is not a racist, whoever that is a nickname for I don’t know. Presumably the rest of the lads are raging racists and mock “R” not only for his small size (or massiveness) but also his considered liberal views

Meanwhile Paddy makes a packet selling Irish flags and beat up pallets to Norn Iron dole Taliban.

I don’t see the problem as ABM stated “working class men out expressing a love for their country, their heritage and their culture.”

I mean, if your idea of culture happens to be fueled by hate then that’s just a coincidence.

    1. Kevin

I turned up here just to read ABM’s apologia. I don’t see it, but I’m sure he’s busy with his “life” and all that, and doesn’t check broadsheet every 3 mins like the rest of us losers.

As relevant to my live here in the Republic of Ireland as rockets flying through the sky in Israel. But at least it’s content to distract me from the ongoing ennui.

    couple of questions –
I get why they have they want to burn tri-colours and the fianna flag (blue with yellow sunburst) but why the Palestinian flag? Is it a pro-israeli thing?

where is the homophobic reference in the pic?

Keep Antrim Tidy is of course an a ref. to KAT (Kill All Taigs) but what does it say above that on the big tricolour?

    1. Roisin

There’s a rainbow flag around 3/4s of the way up on the right hand side. And I presume the Palestinian thing is because Irish republicans *tend* to support the Palestinian cause, and my enemy’s enemy is my friend and all that jazz.

Or maybe they thought it’s the Carlow flag. Who the hell knows.

I never want a United Ireland if it means having to deal with the likes of them.

      1. lolly

thank you! I actually thought that was a Nederlands flag (which would have been even weirder in retrospect)… they really are a strange bunch.

The vast majority of working class protestants leave NI around the time of the 12th. All these bonfires and bigotry tend to come from the middle / upper class unionists.

    1. lolly

I’d really like to see where you got that from as the UVF was a largely working class organisation as far as I know.

When did what the opinions of marginalised fourteen year old kids become news worthy. There are a few behind my local shopping centre might be worth a sound byte or two.

    1. ahyeah

      Good point, I think.

A lot to be said for ignoring these people – and racists, homophobes and all other fools. Lots of people are saying interesting, worthwhile, clever things. We should probably focus on them instead.

    2. aron

It’s not so much that kids wrote horrible things, but if 14 year olds in most places in Ireland wrote those things on a giant, community bonfire for all to see, their parents would string them up. But clearly these kids know this is acceptable in their community. They do it every year. What’s written on this bonfire is a sign of a fupped up society.

  12. Florida123

Disgusting. Its a shame the pallets didn’t fall down on all those inbred, ignorant and racist people.

  13. the good helen

there are a few men helping them there. Being honest, it is men, and teenagers maybe even younger. its shocking.
