Have You Room For A Student?

Roofless Students Grace McGrath and Connlaoth McDuffie

The launch in Dublin today of a campaign by The Union of Students in Ireland to encourage home-owners in Dublin to “consider housing a student during term-time“.

Wait, come back.

They say

“As a short-term measure to support the initiative, the Union of Students in Ireland has put together a simple website, allowing home owners to list their spare rooms and their conditions, with the objective of providing students with contacts for those willing to help. The system also allows for landlords and agents to place their available accommodation online – and it’s free to use. ..”

Fair play though, in fairness.

Any takers?

I might have a bit of space out the back since the dog died. £500 weekly, access to garden tap extra. You can be bloody grateful and all.

After looking for a place recently and taking ages to find anything suitable and not insanely priced, with someone else sharing the rent and both of us working, I feel pretty bad for any students and don’t doubt some will get screwed out of their choice of course by a combination of overpriced housing, and lack of student accommodation in colleges. My mother has a spare room, I’ll tell her about this. It’s a great idea, but it’s pretty bad that it’s gotten to the point it’s necessary.

Digs was the norm for a lot of students when i was in college in 90’s. A great way for some howners with space to earn some extra income if they need it.

It involves giving up quite a bit of your privacy though.

Like, no more cooking breakfast in the nip.

It’d be great if daft.ie added a checkbox (the way they have for Social Welfare Accepted) to say ‘suitable for students?’.
I’m not agreeing with the Social one, I’m just saying it would be a helpful addition.
It must be a pain in the hoop to see piles of available rooms or houses but they won’t take your call. I went to Maynooth so everything was available to students really, and it was still hard to find places sometimes.

    Fair fupping play in fairness

I sense more getting rogered up the bottom though somehow by the property-owning class

Is that how you do it Biros?
