Owen writes:

“I’ve been a barber for over 6 years now. I’ve worked in Cork, Dublin, Brisbane and Melbourne. I’ve picked up loads of experience along the way so It’s safe to say I’m ready to spread my wings and here it is “Barber on a Bike”. Dublin’s a trendy city, Sweet Barnets are a must and I take pride in keeping up to date with modern styles and polishing them off to perfection….Contact me on social media or directly by call or text. Or use the contact form on my site [link below].I then check my diary and pencil you in an appointment. When your time comes I peddle my skinny little legs to your house and style you up in the comfort of your own home so you don’t waste time queuing. All I need is a chair and a socket….”

Finally a barber I can actually talk to.

“No, I didn’t see that ludicrous display last night.”

You don’t need to sterilise equipment and the equipment in barbers doesn’t sterilise anyway. Clean it certainly, but unless you plan on breaking the skin sterilization is pointless

It’s a bloody good job he’s not cycling to cut anyones hair in New Zealand then isn’t it you tool!
Go crawl back under your bridge troll!

Anyone remember the barber brothers on South King Street, near Mercer Street corner who owned two massive old mopeds? Might have been Heinkels.

As bejayziz beautifully highligted below, its a very very fringe idea (ZING).

        It’s also incredibly affected.

        1. FHA

Really? A barber cycling to people’s houses to cut their hair? “Incredibly affected’? What kind of tiny scared little world do you live in? Cop yourself on and stop acting the ponce. Jaysus tonight!

          1. rotide

It’s a hispter barber on a fixie, the blurb aims directly at others of a like mind (Trendy city, bike, sweet barnets, skinny legs) who have no reason to not go out and get a hair cut.

The idea of mobile services isn’t new, but you can’t deny this isn’t aimed at a certain sector. Hence I find it affected.

    Cons:
I’ll have to bend over into the shower to wash my hair before and after
I’ll have to clean up the hair from all over my living room or kitchen floor and hair gets everywhere
It will most likely cost substantially more for the call out and I’ll have to clean the floor after he’s done
Some people might not want a stranger knocking about their house
Wont get that free coffee (not really that much of a gripe)

Pro’s: Dont have to walk 5 minutes to the nearest salon/barber

I dont know, tiz a nice idea but doesnt seem well thought out

    1. LiamZero

Another pro for you though: you won’t have to stare at your own bitter, grumpy face in the mirror while he cuts your hair. Win!

      1. Bejayziz

bitter and grumpy how exactly, i’m merely pointing out what im sure most are thinking, I hope it goes well for him and at least he wont lose out on much if it doesn’t work as there’s no start up cost so its win win…many hairdressers already do nixers if you ask you use them for a while so its not that new either

        1. LiamZero

You immediately dismiss someone’s business idea as “not well thought out” despite knowing practically nothing about the details. Most of your cons are mild irritations or possibly irrelevant (You might have to have two showers in a day?! And how do you know he doesn’t have a mat to catch the hair and won’t sweep up any stray hairs?).

Try adopting a positive outlook on life in future, makes the world seem so much brighter!

    Coming soon to Broadsheet:

We don’t normally do this but the barber’s bike has been nicked…

What always baffles me is the “wonderful” people who troll the Internet leaving aimless negative comments on stuff they have no experience of! Hope this guy doesn’t get landed with any of these customers in the future!!
So the actual review- a friend of mine heard about this guy and got a haircut and now apparently all my friends are getting their haircuts in their own homes! The lads seem to be very happy about the results and apparently he’s a really nice guy aswell. I wish him the best of luck! Also I’m thinking the price is €15-€20.

      1. huppenstop

But the convenience of having him come to you has got to be worth something, right? :) You’ll easily pay €15 for a haircut in Dublin and you have to wait. Usually.

        1. Bejayziz

Its not convenient having to clean up hair after though and not having the proper sinks and seat for washing your hair etc? getting your hair cut in your gaff doesnt seem like a great idea or is that just me, people get nixers at home because it can be cheaper than getting a full cooler or highlight jobby in the shop, they wouldnt if it cost extra

  6. Mikier

How far would he travel on his bike. Would he cycle to the top of Howth and cut my hair overlooking the Irish Sea out in the open? Socket provided via car. Or is this just for city centre people?

  7. Barberonabike

Thanks a million for all the positive feed back guys, in particular Christine(I liked that one). Haircuts are €15 and exceptionally good!! Plus you don’t get the express conveyer belt system most barber shops have. I also throw in free beard trims. Long live the bike!!!!!

    1. Parp

I’ve no hair on my head, but I’ll call you out for the free beard trim. I assume this post can be used as proof if you refuse.

  8. Mikeyfex

It’s a grand idea and it seems like he does a good job, and it would certainly be nice to cycle round the place as part of your job but you could do a haircut or two in the time it takes to cycle from customer to customer. For his own sake he’d have to charge in keeping with that.

(Well excuse me for living in the real world. Gawh!)

  9. Mikier

Ahhh, poor website design. Has a separate menu where you can find out, top right, in blue, hardly notice it. should be front page like the other menus if that is what he is going for.

    So just South Side really.

  10. ArtVandelay

Is it just me or does he look like an android? Maybe he’s the T799, sent back in time to make our hair look fabulous.

  11. bobsyouruncle

He cut my hair out in Rathmines at one of the barbers a few weeks ago. Absolute gent.
Its normally about 15 quid for a mens styled haircut. 5 and 6 are for the lop and chop jobs they do in those cheap mens barbers about the place. A great pro is that you can go through exactly what you like and show pics etc.. sometimes I feel you’re rushed in barbers.
