this should be of no concern. however, the inconsistency in the ‘national pint index’ should be a huge worry to us all. average industrial wage should always be between 120-150 pints per week but in large areas of the country this figure can be widely distorted by bars and restaurants in retail parks and tourist areas generally. how are we supposed to engage in effective strategic planning with such a reckless approach to economics by our government?

Fair enough. Everywhere else in Temple Bar charges over the odds, so why shouldn’t McDonalds? It’s not as though the €6.90 pint of stout is any different to the €4.80 pint half a mile away.
I think the problem is the fact that the shithole that is Temple Bar can just claim open season on tourists and get away with it.
Almost all Dubs and most Irish people would be wise to it, but tourists are not. Yes, there are the same types of areas in other cities across the world, but two wrongs don’t make a right.
Even with higher rents, can pubs really justify €2 a pint in the difference?
Oh, I don’t disagree with that at all. However, if I rand a business in Temple Bar, I’d be scalping tourists as much as I could get away with. So would most people. Business is business. It’s more a question of sustainability and whether this sort of carry on will ultimately damage the tourist trade for the city and country as a whole.
Incredible. I hope that no-one tells them that sometimes smaller branches of a supermarket sometimes charge higher prices than larger supermarkets in the same chain.

I actually admire their honesty here. Plus it’s not like it’s an Irish thing either. Go anywhere in the world & the tourist areas are more expensive. Unclear why so much knicker-knotting goes on here regarding Temple Bar’s pricing. It’s an idiot tax: dumb enough to get caught by it, pay the price.
There’s a government board actively working at making Ireland an attractive holiday location. Forward it to them.
It’s not just Temple Bar or McDonalds. I found I could get a particular pair of shoes in Office for €20 cheaper in their Henry St store compared to their Grafton St store.

It would have been entirely plausible to brush off the difference as being down to differing rents between the Ilac and Temple Bar. The fact that they didn’t can only be admired.
I like that they are using ‘pice’, an old Indian/ Pakistani currency no longer in use.
