It’s the only universally acceptable alternative to white in work environments that still require the formality of a suit. You can’t blame us, really. White shirts only was a de facto rule in many places until not terribly long ago.

Load of sh*te – stop making excuses for being too scared to be mildly different, grow a pair and try a different shirt and/or trousers. I sincerely doubt you’ll be fired.

I will, as soon as women start wearing corsets and bustles again.
Surrrrdiously, when is the suit going to die out?! Look at a photo from the 1900’s, women’s fashion is unrecognisable, the men would probably get away with it nowadays. Uncomfortable as helllllll.

I feel so sorry on hot days for men in jobs that require suits and women can swan in with a light blouse and skirt. EQUALITY NOW!

Sorry for the rant. I just really hate suits.

I take your point about the tyranny of the suit and tie, but you do know that women have to deal with a whole range of workwear pitfalls men don’t, don’t you? So not a lot of swanning going on, I promise.

        1. Ahjayzis

Oh I know that, it’s just particularly on hot days I see the disparity.

Like those Swedish busdrivers who weren’t allowed wear shorts on hot days, so they wore the skirts from the women’s uniform instead and were covered by equality legislation ^_^

Fortunately I’m not in, and never intend to be in a job that requires a suit. I just think they’re hideous, unshapely, boring things.

          1. The Old Boy

Fair enough, I suppose. I don’t think people who have to wear a suit get too annoyed about it, apart from boiling summer days. There’s a lot to be said for not having to put any thought into getting dressed when you drag yourself out of the scratcher with a head on you like a bucket of sand at half five in the morning.

” you do know that women have to deal with a whole range of workwear pitfalls men don’t, don’t you?”

          What are they?

      2. Moan

        You’re a fool.
If you shirt and tie is uncomfortable, then you just need a larger size shirt.
If you suit is uncomfortable then it’s probably because it’s cheap junk.

Have some pride in your appearance.

        1. Ahjayzis

Pride? By looking like every other person in the office? No thanks. A suit is just a uniform.

I dress smartly, just not in the style of a 19th century gentleman ;)

  1. Mr. T.

What, no shots of Google workers unicycling into work while wearing their dog tags and carrying laptops without covers?

    1. Mick

No, they were already working hard in their offices by the time this photographer got on the streets.

Seriously Mr T, how many times a week do you use Google? A lot.

Nice work making yourself looking like a tw@t.

  2. Tragic Kingdom

So in BS poster land nobody works everywhere except in Dublin’s Silicon Docks and IFSC, right? +12.5% Let see some shots at 4 AM of farmers, Aldi veg pickers, fire fighters, cops, hospital porters, and street cleaners. #diversity

Sure they only care about the 9-5ers The rest of us don’t matter. Let’s ban the suits from pubs restaurants and shops.

  3. Bingo

These photos are a bit creepy.
Lets hope that guy doesn’t start taking snaps of people walking home from town at 3am….
