I think it’s there to encourage people turning right to stop being traffic and get off their bike.

There’s a lot of that kind of thing, almost as though cycle lanes exist to get bikes out of the way of busy traffic engineers as they drive to work…

There is something similar being build in the Blackrock bypass and it has dedicated cycling traffic lights for bikes turning right, so it might be to leave clear passage for the other bikes.

It makes sense where there are two or more lanes to cross.

According to my YFG friend who wears suits to bed and goes out with a girl who wears first lady two pieces, only poor people cycle and get the bus.

      He’s quoting Thatcher, isn’t he?
“Any man who rides a bus to work after the age of 30 can count himself a failure in life.”
—attributed to Margaret Thatcher, former British PM

I have a mental image of a guy wearing rollerskates riding the bus’s exhaust pipe as he’s “tugged” along to work.

That one is Kerry doesn’t count. While it’s clearly the start of the cycle lane you can also see that it continues as a cycle lane even though there’s a yield sign. When you approach a stop sign while driving a car you don’t just remain stopped at it while thinking there’s no more road beyond the sign.

sure cyclists dont use them lanes anyway. Get ride of them – and the lanes! They both get in the way of me and my automobile.
I like Thatchers quote – its funny cause its kinda true.
