Iona Houseman writes:

We are a collaborative group of 7 visual artists currently studying at the National College of Art and Design.  In response to the recent jump in Irish property prices and the presence of Ghost Estates throughout the country, we have created Spectre Estates, a multi media intervention posing as an estate agency.  Given the current trend of socially engaged art, we believe the current housing crisis merits cultural critique.

Nothing new with a cultural critique. That’s been done often.

But tell me, how will this “multi media intervention work ” ? Will it solve the problem? Is art relevant? Are art students chronically middle class and slightly jarring?

Urgh – Personally I wouldnt have taken the time to post that

Is this a transition year project ? No read the original post it is NCAD

I doubt they set out to solve the problem but rather critique it and get people to think – Art is always relevant and although many art students are middle class not all artists are I would think

In conclusion their project might be above your heads go back to kitten videos on youtube or do something better – in short you represent everything wrong with the internet – immediate keyboard warrior criticism

Yes, it’s so above my head that they have to put their cr@ppy puns in italics or bold for me to understand.

      Thanks.

Well, for one thing you don’t know what keyboard warrior is.

Secondly, it’s not even mediocre, it’s just obvious and a bit late to be honest.

Ah, that old gem: “If you don’t like the work, it’s clearly because you’re too ignorant to get it.” Because it’s definitely not pointless and naive and a little bit poo or anything like that…

It’s just not very good and hopelessly unoriginal Don. People have talked and critiqued the poo out of this, it’s old news.

I will say, NCAD appears to have gone to shite. It’s certainly no Royal Academy …

I think the sort of people that have to think about why some estate in Roscommon is worthless vs an estate in Dublin going up in price won’t be helped by this.
