Again, its 1,700 flights, not 1,700 aircraft. Its probably closer to 200 jets.
Yes, its still an obscene amount, but if they want to fly, let them.
Most of them can be powered on pure smug alone, and the smug factor usually rises quite significantly when the WEF is on.

Maybe, but 1700 private jets taking one flight would have the same carbon footprint as say 200 private jets taking 8 flights each..

Oh yeah, i wouldn’t dispute the impact regardless of whether its one way or the other.
Its just irritating that this started out as CNN Money report which through Chinese Whipsers now has 1700 planes all landing in Davos.

So if I’m a billionaire in reality doesn’t most of my money get invested into businesses (large and small), or lent to other people and businesses (buying/issuing debt or banks lending out the money left on deposit), or held in commodities which are again lent out to others in the financial markets. It’s not like this billion is sitting under a mattress somewhere.

Does it really matter what portion of the people ‘have’ the wealth, they don’t have it at anyway at any given time. If a wealth person doesn’t put money on deposit with a bank I can’t borrow from the bank for a mortgage say.

Actually a lot of it is in pure speculation rather than on deposit.
Think about the speculators in food futures who artificially drove up the price of food, causing shortages in some countries.

Go look at at derivatives fund someday… it’s not invested in the bakery down the street.

Which Denis O’Brien telecoms market will Enda not be promoting at this year’s Davos? (biggest eye-opener for Enda in 2013 was the potential of the Burmese telecoms market, where Dinny was bidding for a licence, though Enda denied he met with Dinny at the summit at all!)

And which prime minister of a country where Digicel holds the mobile licence, will Enda be meeting with at this year’s Davos (in 2013, Enda met with two PMs, Denmark and Haiti – ah yes, Haiti, such an important trading and social partner for Ireland).

      +1

This is essentially a private business trip for Enda (funded by the public obviously)

That’s not the government Gulfstream. Its a Gulstream 4, it’d likely use IRISH251 as its callsign and I believe its crocked at the moment anyway

Yeah I was about the say the G650 is the newest Gulfstream, a snip at $65 million and a waiting list of over 18 months. So yeah, this ain’t the governments :D

Just had a look at Flight radar and there is a helicopter flying SW past Zurich with the call sign GOOFY11 which made me laugh, yes I am that childish, plus that’s the first time I’ve seen a helicopter listed.
