James Coffey writes:

Today marks what would have been the 70th birthday of one of music’s most influential and iconic stars, Bob Marley. Irish graphic designer Gary McLoughlin created this print recently in commemoration of Bob Marley’s concert in Dalymount Park, Dublin 25 35 years ago this July.
Some of Gary’s previous works of “Alternative Posters For Irish Movies” was also featured on Broadsheet.ie.

    Influential? Really?
At the risk of sounding old, most reggae sounds similar and what did he influence?

Influenced enough to still be considered and recognised as the main man of Reggae.

So much so that its hard to believe he’s dead given that Marley’s profile is the same today as it was 30 years ago.

Lads who weren’t even born when Bob Marley passed can belt out Buffalo Soldier

      But that’s just me.
My first single was Anthea and Donna: Up Town Top Rankin’

And it’s still one of my favourite tracks. In my gaff it is still the summer nights comeallya floor filler. And exactly just as it was when it was released.

The sound, if I can call it that, that Bob Marley broke out of Jamaica with survives today, just as it was.

It has survived punk, heavy metal, ska, new romantics, techno, pop, uTube and xfactor.

Bob Marley and his shack reggae sound survives fully intact today.

Some famous morose once said that ” all reggae is vile “. How true he was. Bob Marley Park is awful. And I’ve smoked lots of ganja man!
