A video  highlighting the difficulties faced by members of the transgender community across Europe seeking gender recognition made for Transgender EU .

Bob Gallagher writes:

Proud to say the video was shot in Dublin with a talented mixture of Irish and international cast in front of the camera, and a very dedicated and brilliant crew behind it.

The video was made through an Irish production company called Invisible Thread, commissioned by TGEU in Berlin.

This video is melodramatic and not fact based. You cannot actually force someone to get divorced. One or both parties has to consent.

That comment makes absolutely no sense. The film is about people seeking gender recognition and the oppressive and discriminatory bureaucratic structures put in place to hinder them.

If you are married and want to officially change genders divorce is a prerequisite.

The flimsy justification being that allowing otherwise would allow for same sex marriage without the mandatory eight hundred hours of flistening to Lolek reps.

Transgender is the state of one’s gender identity or gender expression not matching one’s assigned sex. Transgender is independent of sexual orientation; transgender people may identify as heterosexual, homosexual, bisexual, etc; some may consider conventional sexual orientation labels inadequate or inapplicable to them.

“some may consider conventional sexual orientation labels inadequate or inapplicable to them.”

Ah here. That sounds like precious and attention seeking.

Just like all those wimminz who get preggers for the craic of the abortion, right?

Just shut up and let the state decide what to do with your body.

It will be, you’d hope, if they do something about that pesky Medieval legislation. Nightmare until then it seems.

I suppose divorce has to be a prerequisite. You can’t have a same sex marraige forced on you just because your parter decides to transgender. Haven’t partners got rights too?

How is same-sex marriage any different from different-sex marriage if you’re still married to the same person? I believe the implication of the crying woman in the courthouse is that she’s sad that their otherwise-lovely marriage is being voided by the government only because her partner needs gender reassignment.

      1. Major Thrill

It isn’t, but right now if you change gender and remain married you’re in a same sex marriage which the state has not legislated for.
