If you check the cached page you’ll see The Examiner listed abortion as number 4 on their list of women’s rights violations for IWD. Open the page now and eight has become seven.

Hmm.

Says more about the sort of listicle crap that gets published as news. It would be ridiculous to publish as “shocking” that we don’t have abortion. We knew that.

I don’t really think its league position is what counts. A bottle of cop on for whoever was scandalised by this.

The issue isn’t that it is in the league at 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 or whatever. The issue is that abortion being illegal in Ireland was removed from the list.

Isn’t this a thread which should end with “Anyone?” to find out why the Examiner removed lack of abortion services as a “shocking restriction on women’s rights”. Did someone spot what I would guess would be an outrage to pro-lifers, call the proprietor (the Crosbies) or the editor (Tim Vaughan) or the digital editor (Dolan O’Hagan) and have its inclusion removed?

    Anyone?

      Thanks, following email sent

      Dear Mr O’Hagan,

I am referring to your story published Sunday 8th March 2015, “7 shocking restrictions on women’s rights around the world”. The story makes no reference to the dreadful treatment of women in Ireland regarding abortion in the country, particularly with reference to the the Savita Halappanavar case.

It is however interesting that the URL link to the page refers to 8 restrictions (http://www.irishexaminer.com/examviral/real-life/8-shocking-restrictions-on-womens-rights-around-the-world-317040.html), The cached Google page (snapshot 8 Mar 2015 11:11:54 GMT http://goo.gl/Cus22T) also refers to 8 shoicking restrictions, not 7. It would seem this 8th shocking restriction that you have restricted from the article is indeed the legal status of abortion in Ireland.

Could you please clarify why you have taken this action to remove abortion from your list? I will also be publishing this email on Broadsheet and Reddit but will be happy to respond with your reply when you provide me with one.

      Kind Regards
